Silk and Skip merged Hurley's worldwide commercial success and Syas' strong global following to form S&S Records. M. Doc, who recorded the first Hip House song (“It’s Percussion”) in 1987 with Steve Silk Hurley, presents 2 Raw, the Hip Hop group who proved to be ahead of their time with this now classic Hip House gem.  The sassy vocal flows of Pam Bergans and Sheda Robertson stand up to every track in this package.  Produced by legendary artists and songwriters in their own right, M. Doc and Jamie Principle, “We Got The Funk” is every bit Hip House.



The icing on the cake is the remix treatment by ID Records owner Steve Silk Hurley, who takes the Hip House Jam and transforms it into a Deep House Anthem which still stands the test of time today.

🌀 Music has always been in my blood. I grew up surrounded by records and rhythm — Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Frank Zappa, Gladys Knight, Hendrix, The Four Tops, Simon & Garfunkel, and more. My mum played drums in a family band. My uncle? A jazz pianist lighting up Sydney clubs in the ’70s. At 8, I was singing classical choral works as a chorister in Christchurch Cathedral Choir — and by 16, I was sneaking into nightclubs, mesmerised by the music and the DJ.

💿 That led to crate-digging obsessions and DJ residencies across New Zealand in the ’90s — from Limbos, Ministry and The Edge in Christchurch to Metropolis & Cactus Club in Nelson. Import mags like Mixmag, DJ, The Face, and ID were my bible. I chased vinyl like others chase dreams. Eventually, I landed sets for legendary brands like Miss Moneypenny’s (UK) and made the leap to Melbourne in ’98.

🌃 Melbourne was magic — sets at Freakazoid, 161, Chasers, Jane’s Bar, and Monkey through the late ’90s and 2000s.
Today, I play everything from balearic chill to deep house to nostalgic 80s & 90s classics — always with a selector’s touch and a crowd in mind. Whether it’s a beachside sunset or a dark underground room, I bring the right records, the right energy, and the right vibe.
