Polarity is a  story that begins with someone falling in love. However, their expression of love has a sea of red flags. It starts to grow into an unhealthy obsession. Before long the main character begins to change their image to reflect the person they admire most, causing a distorted sense of self-image. There is momentary bliss during the time spent with their lover, until they notice the toxic behavior for themselves. The main character becomes over-obsessive, territorial, and bursts in episodes of inappropriate anger. However, their skewed perception of love makes them blind to the actual harm they’re doing to their relationship. They try to control their intense emotions, becoming passive aggressive and bitter. They feel as if the love they’ve given is not being reciprocated, when in reality they’re having a hard time navigating around the thought of personal space and boundaries. Soon the main character experiences depression after their fit of displaced anger. They find something else to obsess over now that their significant other has left them. Unfortunately, the alternative they chose had been substance abuse, landing them in a dark place. While emotions keep oscillating, so do thoughts of suicide and self harm. They feel ultimately worthless and have gone from putting their former lover on the highest pedestal to completely devaluing them. Thinking them out to be a bad person and trying hard to forget who they were. The main character is faced with confrontation after rehabilitating. With a clear head and help from others, they begin to recognize their self destructive patterns and toxicity. In a grand effort, they work on becoming a better person. 

The end of this story is meant to be bittersweet. Although they cannot have the person they want, loving them taught the main character how to manage their emotions and sympathize with the feelings of others. They recount memories of their love for their former partner in a more realistic and healthy way.

I think we can all relate to feeling lost at some point in our lives. It’s a strange sensation, being caught in the turmoil of transition where change seems to drown out everything. There’s a heaviness that comes with silence, as if the very act of being muted robs us of our true selves. 

My voice might not resonate the way it once did, and trying to articulate these feelings feels like grasping at shadows. I won't pretend to have clear answers or a roadmap to guide our way; sometimes, it’s just about embracing the ambiguity. 

I’m choosing to remain vague for now. These words may be the last for a while, but here’s what I want to share: I exist as a voice, amidst the silence and the noise that surrounds me. It might feel different, but I remind myself—I am not alone. 

As I navigate these swirling changes, I find an understanding of what sound means to me. It’s not about fading away; it’s about being a collection of pitches and buttons, ready for exploration, much like the chaos and challenges that have shaped my world. I’m no longer frightened; I’m simply aware of what I’ve already lost, a part of me that feels like it’s slipping away. 

But even as my vocal sound begins to shift, I choose to embrace this journey. Thank you for sharing this moment with me.
