A youth based movement that seeks to address youth and women pressing issues

Till the age of thirty he lived in Johannesburg, where he developed his music style and worked with community theatre groups, poets, actors, artists, dancers and writers. Attending workshops born in Tembisa, a large township in Johannesburg, South Africa. Also known as Mambisa by the locals. A culturally vibrant Township with a number of jazz collection collectives, gospel groups and weekend traditional sessions of song, drums and dance.

Sello Moeketsi is a very talented musician and composer. Hailing from such a musically rich environment, he has played music all his life. Starting from home playing organ and clarinet, taught to him by his father.

His music education continued when he took piano and saxophone at Dokay House, a renowned Music Institute, in New Town, Jo-burg. A college attended by some of Sello’s own musical heroes,  Miriam Makeba , Hugh Masekela  and many more.y Chick Corea, Mankuku Ngozi, Ezra Ncukana, Jarome Barde and Lefifi Tladi. Other music influences include Salif Kater, Manu Dibango, John Coltrane.

In 1989 Moeketsi moved to Nambia and lived and played music in Wind Hoek Town and in ‘93 moved to Botswana. There he joined the multicultural band “Kariba” and later formed his own band “Just Friends”. This band became very popular on the Botswana music festival scene and also enjoyed being a backing band for many visiting artists.

Moving home to SA in 2000 he collaborated with talented musicians setting up the group Imvelo. Their contemporary jazz sounds were recognised and they appeared on SA TV on the jazz programme “Bejazzlled” and played at jazz festivals all around the Gauteng province.

In 2006 Moeketsi travelled to the UK, where he played as a visiting musician with the group “Evocation Africa” at the Worksworth Arts Festival in Derbyshire and at The Green Gathering Festival in Bristol in England and in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe as a street artist.   
2007 saw him ring in the new year in Ireland and he has since shared his time between Ireland and South Africa. 

Sello Moeketsi’s latest album Outside the Box is due for official release in August 2011. It showcases his experience and talent, creating music that beautifully blends, jazz, funk and african soul. Layers of music mixing digital and acoustic sounds.
