In late 2020 Satl captured the global mood perfectly with his dense and claustrophobic masterpiece ‘Lucid Dreams’. This summer, he flips the script, channeling hope and optimism on a six-track EP – Bedroom Producer with a Dream - a rose-tinted self-reflection, perfectly suited for the summer.  

The contrast between projects shows how effortlessly versatile Satl’s productions can be. He perfectly blends influences from Jazz, Hip Hop and Electronica as he connects with vocalists DRS and T.R.A.C. as well as Auckland producer Tokyo Prose. The project shows off his growing refinement and maturity as a producer who has a great future ahead of him.

 “This project is a reflection of my story as producer. Recently I’ve been looking back at how much I have grown as an artist over the years. From making music in my bedroom to being able to live off of music and playing it all around the world,” Satl explains. “This EP is about that journey: the ups and the downs. Since its early stages I knew I wanted to involve some of my favourite people and I’m really happy with how everything came together. From the vocal talents of DRS & T.R.A.C. to production assist from New Zealand's finest: Tokyo Prose. Some of the tracks feature beautiful piano improvisations by talented Leon Cronie which I re-programmed or completely chopped up. I can only say that I'm really proud of this piece of work.”

Hundreds of drones scrambled beneath a swirling sky as they raced to finish the construction of their monolithic aluminum kin, a masterstroke of technological progress that aimed its apex directly at the eye of the storm above. For years the coming of this cataclysmic event had been known, and from that day the building of the metallic superstructure had begun, but the storm had come a day early and now threatened all of the progress that had been made. In a few short hours, the incalculable ferocity of the gale was set to be supercharged by a coinciding solar flare that would send the forces that churned within it into overdrive, creating a storm that could swallow the world.

Standing below in defiance to this outcome was the drones’ creation, a mass array of rocketry set to bear forth the greatest payload ever delivered from their world. Atop the ship’s stacks of thrusters was a massive satellite, dangerous in its own right for its ability to create conditions much like those that loomed above. Yet beyond the reaches of the planet’s atmosphere, this satellite would be the world’s single attempt to prevent their own destruction, a cosmic parry with only an hour-long window of effect. By emitting a vast amount of oppositely charged particles in the face of the oncoming flare, the satellite would rebuff the energy that threatened to amplify the already destructive storm to apocalyptic proportions. As the surface of the sun roiled with fusion wrought energy, the rocket shot up into the sky, and all on the planet bated their breath in the uncertainty of what would come next.

Following his appearance on EATBRAIN’s Divergence III compilation CHASER now makes his full debut on the label with BLASTPIT, an EP well-named upon the strength of the sonic power that is contained within. The five tracks of the EP feature explosive basslines combined with piercing percussion and an array of samples & synths that all share CHASER’s high-tech sound and promise to supercharge the fervor of the EATBRAIN horde.

Dublin born, London-based Zero T returns to The North Quarter for his third project: “Off Broadway”. Influenced by 70's Jazz-fusion, this six-track affair sees the veteran producer once again show off his effortless diversity. Heavier tracks include noir-soundtrack lead modern jungle cuts Fortune Green and Drama. Lighter, soulful tracks include the New Forms inspired Something Got Me featuring Manchester's Aaliyah Esprit as well as collaborations with KILLSWSH and Steo. Another track made deep during lockdown.  Rhode is a vocalist we've been aware of for some time, and the gorgeous fragility of her vocal just hit us in an extremely powerful way.  The second she laid the first demo on this track, we just knew.  

Haunting, intimate, but expressing all three of our souls at the time of lockdown.   A time when none of us knew what was going on, how things were going to pan out and just what it all meant for us all.  Even thinking back to it now, it was possibly the strangest time any of us have lived through.

This one we've been dying for you all to hear.

The follow-up to last year's 'NQ State of Mind' mix project is headed by two of The North Quarter's most enduring artists: Redeyes and Fox. Mixtapes represent an important symbol of the formative years of many of the artists on this Amsterdam-based label and so it's only right that the tradition is continued by Redeyes and Fox, who both have a long history as music enthusiasts. Consisting solely of TNQ music - including 10 exclusives - this is NQ State of Mind, Vol 2.

  Throughout 31 tracks, mixed by 'smooth operator' Redeyes and backed with Fox's uplifting vocals, this is a journey through The North Quarter's five year catalogue. All artists that make the label the respected entity it is today are featured as well as some unexpected faces. The 10 exclusive tracks will be released on a 2x12” gatefold LP to accompany the mix.

Part of the collection of tracks we made during lockdown, 'Gravity Reading' is a reminder.  To take a breath, take stock, ground yourself once in a while.  Take a Gravity Reading.  The world is a pretty mad place at the best of times, and this track was written as a moment of calm, right in the centre of all the chaos.   It's a track that we hope does that for you too, and gives you that musical reminder that it's ok to take a moment once in a while, and remind yourself that everything is going to be ok.

The deed was done. The great dragonrider, who had tested the adventurer so, had been vanquished and now lay amongst the ruins of the ancient temple that had once contained his might. For their part the adventurer levitated high above these ruins, surveying now the barren mountain that lay before them. They now possessed the knowledge of the dragon, its rider, and more, having gained everything from the beast’s flight and flaming tongue to the rider’s discipline and control. Their final quest had been accomplished, what more could lay before them?

Yet the adventurer was born under sign of the snake, and thus their passionate resolve bore forth a foremost idea to their mind. With little more than a thought, they began to hew the mountainside into a new and wondrous temple, replacing the ambitious construction of the dragon temple that now lay below. As they sculpted their new temple with mere thoughts, the adventurer’s breath transformed stone into gilt and precious stones of all variety, furnishing the temple’s strong stone halls with all the beauties of the world. With a wave of the adventurer’s hand rain fell from the sky, and with it came trees that sprouted from stone and serpentine vines that crawled across the temple’s facade. The temple now built, the adventurer set to one final task. Chanting a mantra known innately as one of the snake, the adventurer summoned forth first one great serpent, then more and more, further and further until sending the writhing mass into the depths of the temple, to spread and find their homes amongst its nooks and crannies and to lay in wait for the students that would come. As the greatest snake of all wrapped the entire mountain in its scaly embrace, the adventurer looked upon their completed work with satisfaction. This was no mere temple built to honor the haughty dragon. No, this would be where the adventurer would take and train their disciples. This was a place of the Snake, where their ilk could train and learn. This strength, this power, under the adventurer’s rule it would be taught. Here, upon the face of the mountain, the SNAKE MONASTERY was born.
