‘Pattern of Unconsciousness’ plums the depths of the bared soul. A pulsating, primeval structure, eerily morphing pads, and mesmerizing tribal elements unleash a hypnotic quality that speaks to our base-most perceptions to unlock mind, body, and soul.

Hedström & Pflug trade subtlety for pressure, injecting the original’s mesmeric qualities with punishing force and insistence. Restless, clear-cut percussive patterns, tribal drums, and shuddering sub-bass transform ‘Pattern of Unconsciousness’ into a high-octane offering to the concrete totem.
Setting ‘Pattern of Unconsciousness’ in a vast, reverberating chamber of cascading claves and far-off percussion, Marsch unleashes a relentless hail of traversing stimulants, grounded by a compact kick and a hypnotically hovering synth.

Infusing his pounding techno with dubby chord house, Red Rooms’ ‘Metropolis’ is an up- tempo assault equal parts deep and body-moving with powerful rave undercurrents.

Rill’s rendition moves ‘Metropolis’ into a blippier, more hypnotic realm. Searing bursts of white noise and resonant lasers pierce through a seething substructure of darkly bubbling arpeggios.

With ‘Pattern of Unconsciousness’, Red Rooms artfully combines the stimulating and the soporific, the corporeal and the hallucinogenic, the brutally energetic and the hypnotizing. A journey to the brink of consciousness is served.

With four highly focused and crisp new tracks, Bas Dobbelaer and Vand return to SoHaSo once again. Their Laren EP from last year got high praise from dj’s and lovers of deep, percussive dance music and ZL2 seems to wander down that same and interesting path.
Though some things have changed.

On their new EP the vibe seems more melancholic, more introvert. Might the pandemic and the locked down nightlife have something to do with it?

Or is it perhaps due to Dobbelaer’s new favourite instrument, the Waldorf Blofeld? This small synthesizer combines the technology of today with the analogue vibe of the last century and is a therefore perfect metaphor for the delicate ‘vintage feel productions’ of Vand and Dobbelaer.

In any case, ZL2 is manna for headphone junkies. The condensed kicks on tracks like Nomansland and Runner make way for some excited listening, with beautiful details everywhere in the sound spectrum. Listen how the hi-hats unfold slowly on the blissful off-beat belter Story of Blade. Where a melancholic strings ties it all together.
Once again, youth friends Dobbelaer and Vand made something special together. Let’s hope the clubs reopen soon, because you really want to hear ZL2 on a proper sound system.

'Micah Paul Lukasewich is a Canadian electronic music producer with his feet firmly planted in underground dance music. With releases on Global Underground and Selador, and with fans like John Digweed, Micah is no stranger to the world of progressive and melodic house sounds. Singer-songwriter Kiki Cave has honed her composition and performing skills for several years, leading to prestigious labels from Bedrock to Soundgarden signing her impressive vocal delivery. For their first-ever release on Balance, Micah and Kiki collaborate for a cut that is pure progressive bliss - and one that gets increasingly better with each listen.

'Evening Winds' is a straight-up slice of dancefloor decadence. The bass is reminiscent of a foghorn that cautions against a coming storm, and the ominous-sounding vocals of Kiki Cave only add to the drama. Halfway through a high pitched synth is introduced to cut through the storm, guiding you to a satisfying breakdown which will wash over you like a cyclone. 

On the dub version, the journey is more hypnotic. Added into the mix are ethereal elements and melodic washes with a purging quality to it. With the vocal removed, there is more space for the modulated high pitched synth to take centre stage. Like the Pied Piper, it guides the listener through a highly satisfying 8 minutes of aural perfection.'
