SoHaSo continues their summer sampler series with part 3. Again, the Utrecht based record label brings you some forgotten beauties from the past. Mostly from the Lowlands this time.

Perfect Virtue by British trio Shi Take is one of those gems. Tribal house rhythms from 30 years ago, with a bassline that makes you want to wiggle all the way to the center of the dance floor.

SoHaSo label head honcho Nuno had been playing a demo of Tools for Fools by Dutch producer Sluwe Vos for years, when he found out the energetic rhythm track never got a proper release. Well, now it has.

Flip over for some more forgotten Dutch house history. Jibaros is a project from dance veteran Eric Cycle. It has all the elements that made house music from the lowlands so good in those days: percussive beats, a decent baseline and good melodies sprinkled on top. It's a layercake of sweet stuff that just keeps on building. Very pricey on Discogs nowadays, but luckily Cycle still had the original DAT-tape lying around.

Nozem is a bit of the odd one out. It's actually a project by a young dude from the south of Holland but it sounds like he stepped into a time machine which warped him back to the 90s. The vocals (in ancient Greek!) are from Sister of Iris.

Closure track Tinkling Sensation by Delta (Alex Dijksterhuis) is more than 25 years old. With it's fast-paced rhythms this piano driven tune could well be something post-progressive from Scandinavia. But this is the real deal. Uplifting rave music from the days people were still carrying fluor sticks.

Everybody loves a good mystery. The second chapter of the Nowhere Series brings you to France, Kalamazoo, Arnhem and Den Haag. Four forgotten dance floor bangers by folks who clearly remember the first summer of love, back in 1988.

First up is a dark and twisted acid track by @laurent-garnier. Flashback stems from 1997, but has aged like a good single malt whiskey from France. You better believe it.

It Talks To Me is proper Detroit techno, with it's abstract stabs and moody strings. Except it's from Poland, where US-born @d-knox now resides since 2005 and where he has pumped out an amazing discography. You can't get any closer to early Transmat-energy than with this raw track from 1995.

On the flip it is over to Holland, for two forgotten gems. Inferno came out on vinyl, back in 1993. On the legendary label Gyrate. It's a full on acid affair, with a massive break. Made by Dutchies Frederik (of Pako & Frederik fame), Eric De Man & Heiko van Eindhoven. For this release still vinyl only.

Solartrek by @roland-klinkenberg was picked up by I-F in 1995 for his Top Secret label. The energetic and surprisingly bright track is now remastered and available on vinyl again & digital platforms for the very first time.

First appearing alongside other techno house royalty - Greg Gow and Karim Sahraoui on ‘The Other Side’ Vol 1 v/a compilation, Fabrice Lig was first a fan of the label before establishing a working and musical friendship with founder and fellow artist, Eddie Niguel. It was only a matter of time before the Belgium star was set to debut on Integrity with a solo release, and appearing on the label’s ‘Yellow’ artist series couldn't have been more perfect. Integrity Records is proud to present ‘The Cosmology’ EP by Fabrice Lig, four cuts that amalgamates the producer’s musical range. Fabrice effortlessly traverses, cosmic house, funkified techno and dub electronica on this outing, prominently displaying why the world class producer continues to impress the world over with his music and unwavering commitment to only releasing hi-quality electronic music for the body and for the soul.

Back in the nineties, Human Beings were pioneers in the Dutch techno scene. And The Matrix may well be their finest moment. SoHaSo gives this stone-cold classic the re-release it deserves, together with a magical Plaid-remix and a forgotten track, straight from DAT.

Together with Quazar and Fierce Ruling Diva, Utrecht-based duo Human Beings were among the very first brave enough to go live, back in 1992. Dance music was still called house or techno. Other flavors only came later.

Both Allert Aalders and Bert van der Grift were proper nerds. Their studio was filled to the brims with vintage synthesizers and drum computers and all machines were constantly challenged. Van der Grift sadly passed away in 2005 after a sudden cerebral haemorrhage, marking the abrupt end of Human Beings.

The Matrix ticks all the boxes of a proper Human Beings-tune: crystal clear melodies sweeping from corner to corner, ultra-clever drum programming and a main theme that knocks your socks right off. In the energetic live version, they have shaped the track to perfection. A secret weapon that works wonders on dancefloors, even 30 years later.

London duo Plaid strip The Matrix to its bare essentials, focusing on the main melody while giving the kick a bit more oomph in a Plaid kinda way.	

Ghost in the Shell is exactly that. A forgotten off-beat track, made during one of those many sessions in Bert's crampy studio. Its murky downtempo rhythms take a nod to both Meat Beat Manifesto and Renegade Sound Wave.

Irishman in Glasgow Peter Lawlor, better known under his artist name Polytunnel, just had his trend-setting single Outer Earth out on Made Magnetic, which came with remixes from artists like Denham Audio, Lighght and Jellypelt, and is not only a musical follow-up of previous releases but foremost the consolidation of the artist's status of "one to watch in the present and future." A status that was caused by previous releases on Seven Sign Recordings and Childsplay in 2022 respectively in 2019. Now Peter delivers the latest episode of the art:cast series and, of course, does not disappoint as he created a conglomerate of tracks that smoothly intertwine and keep the tension growing.

After Ozzy's debut Intercept EP 'Maerts', the Dutch-Australian living in Amsterdam is back with his next offering: Obscurity Streets. Combined with 'Why Does Time Feel So Slow', both tracks reflect a more intimate side of dance music as seen through Ozzy's colourful lens. Both tracks aim to entrance and make the listener come closer. Featuring vocals of Ozzy himself, it seems like he's slowly drawing you in, only to make you realise your energies have been lifted and you're now on a fast paced roller coaster of a track. Obscurity Streets is written during Ozzy's period in Berlin, and serves as an ode to the city that never sleeps

He was stood on the corner by himself, minding his business as the traffic went swiftly on by. He didn’t have anywhere to go that day so it seemed right and fit to set up shop on the corner with little else but the shoes on his feet and the bang of a drum which echoed from a dusty old speaker that he’d brought alongside.

He took a sip of his drink, lit up a cigarette and began to shuffle slowly in time with the drums. He’d come here quite often, from time to time folk might come watch before they began hustling and bustling on again with their days. He cared little if they stared or not.

This was is happy place and as the music began to grow louder so too did his pace. This was the Sanskrit Body Rock and that’s what he’d give em’.

Marcellus Pittman is set to release a new EP on Acid Test – a raucous record which aligns perfectly with the rough and ready sensibilities best associated with the House music of Detroit and Marcellus’ own roots. This one bumps loud in the club and Marcellus Pittman’s music fits well alongside the heritage of Acid Test as a record label.
