Deep, trippy and hypnotic. That pretty much sums up the new Nacreous-EP by Shoal on the Dutch imprint NOWHERE. The title refers to a certain glow or color that mother-of-pearl radiates. Shoal is the alter ego of Utrecht-resident Kenny Dean Kneefel. When you have a name that sounds like a famous stuntman, you are probably prepared to take more risks.

And indeed that's exactly what this producer from the lowlands does on Nacreous. Shoal's four track EP combines hallucinant grooves with delicate sound design. Like on Bygone Drums, where ominous distant sounds from a nearby factory creep between the shadows. The same can be said of the title track, a tribalistic tune with a delicate dark undertone.

Never Endings is more uplifting, with its dubbed out basslines and crispy hi-hats. Dubtechno that reminds us of both Monolake and Fluxion. Closing track Morning Float is indeed that, a trip in a blue tank filled with warm water, where you are comforted by beautiful strings and sounds of nature.

Shoal - Bygone Drums

Tilman returns to Off Track with a four-tracker for ostensible dancefloor pleasure, but our ears can confirm it goes further to sate the home-listeners' predilections too. Continuing the verve of his old skool 90s garage-intoned releases on his very own Pleasant Systems label, Tilman's newest spans dreamatics, whorling deep stabs and saturated toppers; with just the right ratio of sizzle, body and booty to make for a full collective somatic ecstasy.

[HARMONY016]— Limping on Clouds is an EP born from an in-depth collaboration between @polygonia and @shoall. The A-side features one carefully curated track by each artist, while the B-side is a true symbiosis of their work, evolving from a single element or layer loop into a complete mix and arrangement that was gradually developed over time and distance.
 
Side A opens with Shoal's “Majola,” featuring layered breaks and a deep, slung bass, followed by Polygonia's “Repeat,” infused with kinetic energy, rhythmic elements, and euphonic vocal samples.

The synergistic B-side unfolds with a subtle, organic rhythm. “Pendulum” overflows with lush ambiance, creating an ethereal mood that pervades the record. The EP concludes on a downtempo note with the track “Limping on Clouds.”
