Djedjotronic Presents INTERSTATE 101

A collaborative compilation of unreleased tracks and older music from his extended musical family.

Interstate 101 is an important highway running through California and Mexico. It is sometimes called El Camino Real (The Royal Road) as its route follows closely the old route used by the Spanish missions. In some parts of California, it might be designated as « The Pacific Highway » or « The 101 ». Within the years, pieces of this road have been renamed and it has been truncated to be replaced by a more recent Interstate 5.

Like the Interstate 101, Electro is a music genre that connects different countries, different people. It has also been truncated, changed by technology and often renamed. Nevertheless, this Royal Road, that has been influencing the world of electronic music for more than 30 years, still remains as a way out following its path on the margins of a crowded and commercial junction.

This is what Jeremy Cottereau, aka Djedjotronic, wanted to illustrate in this compilation. Most of the tracks have been composed exclusively for the album, by some of the most renown names of the genre: The Hacker, Maeltrom, Glass Figure, Jensen Interceptor, Mikron, Defekt, SCNTST, Hoshina Anniversary, CWS, Noob, Voiron, Miss Kittin and himself. All the artists featured have come across his journey within the last years. They form, as he likes to say, his musical extended family.

Key player in the electronic world, Djedjotronic is a French producer that has gained recognition for his productions and his performances showcasing a nonlinear vision of electronic music. He is also known for his work as a remixer for UNKLE, Tiga, Boys Noize, Chilly Gonzales, Chromeo, Housemeister, Surkin, Birdy Nam Nam, M.A.N.D.Y, Miss Kittin and Depeche Mode. Since 2011, he has been living in Berlin, where he composed his last productions such as “Kaiko” EP on Boysnoize Records. But he has been maintaining strong ties with France and has signed in 2013 the maxi “Abyssal Zone” for the label Zone created by Gesaffelstein and The Hacker. Follow the electronic Interstate 101, a forgotten leviathan drifting through the ruins of sunken cities.

The Smirnoff Sound Collective is global initiative celebrating diversity and inclusivity in electronic music. Along with other members of the collective and key industry mentors, Joseph Ray and Meli were brought together for a creative retreat at Rancho V studio complex Joshua Tree, California. During one of the SSC Retreats. Inspired by the creative collective and their fellow artists, Joe and Meli created the hypnotic 'Inside' - one of many songs created that week - which unfurls from a melodic and delicate house tune into a bass-infused, bellowing track that easily fills a dance floor with its booming power.

Joseph Ray is a member of Grammy award winning trio NERO - 'Inside' is the first in a series of solo releases from Joseph Ray coming this year, that includes a collaborative project with the Haitian band Lakou Mizik.

MELI is a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and producer, with a burgeoning solo career, whose work has been popping up across multiple genres from hip-hop to EDM.

Booka Shade deliver their Rosebud EP for John Digweeds Bedrock imprint this November, featuring three new original tracks from the Berlin duo.

Blaufield Music founders Booka Shade have long been respected figures in the contemporary electronic music scene having racked up a handful of crossover cuts amongst their regular output aimed towards more underground realms. Here we see them focusing on the latter with a new EP for the esteemed Bedrock label, headed up by John Digweed and home to material from the likes of Guy Gerber, Guy J, Eagles & Butterflies and of course the label founder himself.

Booka Shade : "We have been extremely fortunate in our careers having our music released on many revered and renowned labels. We are particularly humbled and proud to have DJ legend John Digweed pick three of our tracks for a release on Bedrock."

Title-track Rosebud leads with an amalgamation of dark and brooding bass tones, percussive chimes and a bubbling arpeggio lead at its core whilst ethereal voices and resonant leads ebb and flow within.

Lust 2.1 follows with the focus on tension building atmospherics, metallic percussive rolls echoing vocal chops before marimba like synth tones and chugging arpeggios take the spotlight to tail out the composition.

In Velvet then rounds out the package with elongated subs, sweeping atmospherics and a choppy synth sequence all dynamically evolving and unfolding around an organic drum groove driving the composition.

St. Petersburg-based producer Nuage makes his debut on House of Youth with his beautiful, “There's No End in the Beginning” single. “This is a special work for HY, written over a 3 day studio session in Sochi. Originally I just added a samples of piano but then contacted Alexandra and she reimagine some incredible piano chords, which gives more energy and 'life' to the track." The perfect sunset hour track exploring melodic electronica, with groovy percussions and soulful vocal chops accompanying angelic piano harmonies. Stay tuned for his forthcoming EP to be released on House of Youth in September.

If you know Dervaig is actually a small village in Scotland you begin to understand why the openingtrack of Sigward’s Balmung Beam EP sounds a bit eerie and dark. Long, long ago the Vikings came ashore at Dervaig (the word means ‘small inlet’ in Norwegian) but in the winter of 2019 Dutch producer Sigward uses it as a passage way to lead us into his new record.

Balmung Beam is Sjoerd Sigward’s second EP for SoHaSo, the follow up for the well received Black Mambo-single from 2014. In the meantime Sjoerd moved from Holland to Germany, where he now resides in Berlin. This step has provided him with a cinemascope view on dance music, as his new EP clearly illustrates.

Italo-esk flavors on the title track, meditative pulses on the beautiful Woodland Wells Inc and spacious Andy Stott-like tension on Jettison. DL/MS take Balmung Beam to new wave territories on their slumbering arpeggio-driven remix. You might just stick around in this small inlet.
