Soukah & Another Channel - Weakheart

Manners & Respect, a very limited run of four jungle tunes which have had support from the likes of Double O, Sully, Threshold, Stretch among others. I have had quite a few people ask about whether these tunes would be coming out, so I thought I'd put them all on one EP.

My music is heavily influenced by, and samples from, black music, especially reggae and dancehall. I love both those genres, and without them jungle simply wouldn't exist. I want to pay tribute to the culture, of both reggae dancehall and jungle music, and not appropriate them.

Jungle music has always been about unity right from the start, the meeting of the rave culture and sound system culture to create what I believe, is England's only truly multicultural music, a product of two cultures combining.

So, manners and respect, to help with bringing unity and love where it is needed, will pay 10% of any profits generated to the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, which was founded to tackle inequality in all forms. And is dedicated to transforming the life chances of young people and improving the world in which they live in, working with communities and young people from disadvantaged and under-represented backgrounds, helping to transform lives and create a society in which everyone, regardless of their background, can flourish.

It seemed like everything that could go wrong went wrong. Few days after the lockdown, his PC broke down completely. 

Without money to spend and a lot of free time, he decided to use his old laptop again and pour his restless mind into what gives him meaning and a sense of purpose. He started making music. 

Even though the process was frustrating and everything seemed to go slow, he powered through and worked with what he had. In the end, through all the hardship, he created something meaningful. 

He finished his release and went out for a walk. Things were looking up again.

Three years in the making only to be held up almost another year due to COVID and now finally seeing the light of day, is this brooding monster of a record by Brussels based Strapontin, aka multi-disciplinary artist Patrick Belmont.

Clocking in at over 35-minutes the record is almost album length and spans a multitude of depths and moods with elements of techno, new wave, rock 'n' roll, house and tribal…...all glued together with a uniquely sleazy atmosphere.

Add to this a heads-down-no-nonsense darkroom beast of a remix by techno maestro Sascha Funke and the package is complete.

Strapontin provides us with some insight:
“It started with a desire to move away a bit from my 'dancefloor' side and go into more undefined fields, I wanted to work with blurry sensations that I can't understand. I like mixed feelings. Dramatex 300 is made of that ambivalent mood. The voice is saying 'I'm feeling empty' and 'I'm feeling healthy' at the same time. I like that paradox. Eunuque is a song but is also a character I will develop in a short movie (which will act as the 'music video' of the song). The Eunuque is a character full of anger yet he doesn't want to fight nor has he a target to aim at. A restrained aggressivity is boiling inside him/it that has no opportunity to escape from the body and gain release. The song is the fever he feels from these inner battles. I think Le Bain d'Huile and Anti-sceptical have the same slow and angry feeling. I'm proud of these tracks because they are a bit mysterious to me and it feels like they controlled me more than I controlled them.”

Premiere: Adhémar - The Roots System (Simone Bauer Interpretation)

Our first release of 2021 showcases the dub skills of Rotterdam-based @dub-communication label boss, @Frenk-Dublin. Bringing luxurious dub and dubtechno flavours to the table, this release is a remarkable demonstration of the versatility of Frenk Dublin's production.

A - Into the Wetlands
Frenk Dublin provides a stomping 130BPM dubstep-infused track to open up his release. Fulfilling every dub lover's desire with heavy splashes of reverb and endless echoes, the thick layers of an organ's harmony and swirling melodies add an authentic nod in the direction of the ancestor-genre of reggae.

B - Aoukili
With an obvious dubtechno base for it's composition, 'Aoukili' manages to expertly fuse the aesthetics and sonic palette of dubtechno with the groove of genres such as techno and house, without sacrificing the darkness and sonic depth at the heart of dubtechno.

All records will be hand-cut by the dubplate-cutting master Henry Bainbridge at @Dubstudio onto 10" transparent plates!
