The "Unplugged" version of "I'm Dying Inside" featuring the amazing Diane Carter was originally dedicated it to all the innocent victims from the elementary school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012. Since that horrible moment in time there have so many more senseless tragedies and conflicts both here in the US and throughout the world. I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but as members of the human race we owe it to ourselves and future generations to do all we can to put a stop to the mayhem and violence that has besieged our nations. It's easy to throw your hands up in the air and think that your voice doesn't matter. I'm here to tell you that it does! We need to stand up to injustice. We need to write to the elected politicians who can help evoke change. We need to exercise our right to vote!! 

Don't let the title fool you. Although it's a somber piece, there's an underlying sense of hopefulness throughout the song. As the song says "We will rise above the storm." Remember, we CAN & WILL make a difference! It's in this spirit that I'd like to re-dedicate this song to EVERYONE who is suffering and in harms way and to all of us who are more fortunate and have the power to make a difference.

A Lil' Backdrop on the Tune:

When I wrote the tune in 2012 all that existed were some hauntingly beautiful piano chords provided by my buddy Andre Butler and a kick to keep tempo. The instrumentation used in the final mixes were based on those piano chords, but for some strange reason I chose not to use the piano itself. This new "unplugged" mix goes back to simplicity of the original idea. It's stripped down to Diane's heartfelt vocal, my lyric and melody, piano and a few bits of atmospheric color that were used on the dance mixes. I must say that working on this mix gave me goosebumps. I hope it does the same for you.
