Epsilon system

This month's effort is what I could recover from the modular rabbit hole in time to enter.
A single instance of Cardinal running standalone, this uses a semi-random drum sequencer and a random chord generator for the sounds. It then uses a couple of gate sequencers to selectively mute/enable the various voices. The whole thing was then recorded using Audacity.

No One Expects...

Trench has discovered that her combine harvester goes faster when she plays drum n bass. Who knows why? Perhaps there's some sort of spiritual connection between the clutch and the bass? The build is great - the cutter starts up and there's a steady stream of grain into the hopper. When you get to the drop, it seems to be racing through the fields. 

The only problem is the breakdown...

My entry for the 164th edition of KVR's One Synth Challenge. All sounds made using Ghost, a forthcoming synth by exacoustics. As of October 2022, it's still in beta.

No machines were harmed in the making of this track.

Cette "Guerre de Cent ans", comme le XIXe siècle l'a qualifiée, a été comme boudée par l'historiographie. Elle suscite pourtant de nombreuses questions : était-elle une guerre féodale ou un conflit de souveraineté ? Peut-on la considérer comme une guerre de nations ? Quelle fut aussi la part de la guerre civile dans cet affrontement ? Était-elle enfin une guerre nouvelle et globale ? Invité de Storiavoce, Amable Sablon du Corail entame une série de trois cours d'histoire sur le sujet. Après avoir défini la Guerre de Cent ans, la semaine prochaine, il verra en quoi cette guerre est une préfiguration de l'État moderne. Dans un dernier volet, il se penchera sur les causes de la victoire française. 

 

L'invité : Ancien élève de l’École nationale des chartes, docteur en histoire, Amable Sablon du Corail est conservateur général du patrimoine aux Archives nationales, où il est responsable du département du Moyen Âge et de l’Ancien Régime. Il est par ailleurs l’auteur d’une biographie de Louis XI et de 1515, Marignan. Il vient de publier chez Passés / Composés La Guerre de Cent ans Apprendre à vaincre (464 pages, 25 €).

Mizuhara Shuoshi was a 20th century Japanese poet. Shuoshi rebelled against the principles of emotional detachment in haiku, which he thought limited his ability to emotionally express himself through poetry: he started a magazine called Staggerbush which focused on a more romantic, lyrical type of haiku.

The journey begins in the valley, where instinct guides the first steps. There is no plan, only a feeling - to leave the car behind and follow the nearest path upwards. The trail leads through a forest drenched in moss, damp earth underfoot, and the quiet breath of pines shading the way.
It is a beginning wrapped in stillness, as if the mountain itself is waiting.

As the ascent grows steeper, the landscape opens little by little. Between the trees, sudden windows of light reveal sweeping views of the surrounding hills, endless forests stretching across the horizon. Each pause carries a sense of wonder, the climb itself becoming part of the rhythm. The higher the path winds, the lighter the heart becomes, as though every step pulls the spirit closer to something timeless.

Near the summit, a hidden cave emerges. From the outside, it seems small and unassuming - but inside, it unfolds into a vast, otherworldly chamber. Stalactites and stalagmites form silent sculptures, while the last glow of the setting sun pours through the entrance, bathing the stone in a magical light. It feels like stepping into a secret only nature can hold, a moment of awe suspended in time.

This EP carries those impressions into sound — the quiet beginning in the valley, the momentum of ascent, and the luminous mystery discovered at the peak. A translation of fleeting beauty into rhythm and tone, held like an echo of the mountain itself..
