This new EP from Speaking Minds is a debut release that marks the start of what will surely be a great journey for the Italian trio. It comes backed with remixes by MEXA’s Louie Fresco and former Footprintz man Clarian. The Speaking Minds project was born in 2012 from the union of 3 Italian guys with a common passion for music who have appeared on Noir Music, have remixed Superhero and have had support from the likes of Tale of Us.
Opener ‘The Lost Dramatic Arp’ shows plenty of musicality from the off. It’s filled with rippling, lush piano lines and synth chords and has gently underlapping, warm house beats lazily tumbling below in inviting fashion. More searching and skyward melody patterns unfold throughout, forever folding you deeper into the emotive world within. Louie Fresco’s remix retools the track for the dancefloor, speeding up the pace and laying in some more direct and rubbery synth lines whilst retaining the melodic colour and sense of scale of the original.
The other superb original is ‘Amnesia’, a deep and involving house come techno track that is marbled with killer synth lines all treated in various ways – some are loose and liquid, some stiff and strained, but together they make for engaging listening that comes tinged with more than a hint of heavenly emotion. Clarian, who is fast making a name for himself as a solo artist, remixes this one into a tightly coiled,dark and bubbling number that lives in the shadowy underworld. Space ships appear to fly by, leaving trails in their wake, but the minimal groove is never lost and keeps pulsing from start to finish.
Now that the word about Speaking Minds is out there they are likely to go on to become one of the most successful acts of 2014 – once again thanks to some fine A&Ring from the MFR crew.

Argentinian based DJ/Producer OSWLD joins Soma in 2014 and debuts Tragicaller under his new alias 04LM. With some storming releases under his belt on the fantastic Non Series, 04LM brings his more melodic & haunting sound to the Soma ranks. One of the UK’s biggest Techno exports and Blueprint Records label head, James Ruskin, joins 04LM for a bone crunching remix.

Title track Tragicaller growls in with dark, chugging percussion and one mean bass line. Slowly and surely the tracks evolves, eerie pads float atop brash hi hats and shakers and well defined sequences keep the track flowing, heavy atmospheres in the background rise higher keeping the temperature of this on high!

James Ruskin weighs in with his version of M Place. Hard hitting from the get go. A mighty kick drums bangs across the spectrum as 04LM’s main melody pulses in the background. Chopped up percussion slices through giving this track a fantastic groove. James takes his remix into heavier territories as an almighty bass binge rockets through the heart of his version.

The original version of 04LM’s M Place closes the EP. Hollowed out percussion seals a perfectly haunting melody that sweeps in balanced by slightly distorted atmospheres.

04LM creates a distinct sound with his originals while Techno pioneer Ruskin jacks up proceedings nicely.

Ritter Butzke Studio returns this February with the ‘Some Might Work’ EP, courtesy of resident of the infamous Berlin nightclub, which gives the imprint its name, Kuriose Naturale.
Following the successful launch of the Ritter Butzke Studio imprint in 2013, the label steps into the 2014 with more underground sounds. Kicking things off with material from one of the clubs long-time residents Kuriose Naturale, who drop their very first release here in the shape of ‘Some Might Work’.
The A1 cut bears the title "Madame Psychosis", and as the name would suggest the record embodies a dark aesthetic, which generates a hypnotic, spell binding feel throughout the composition as it subtly unfolds over seven minutes.
Following as the A2 we have "Up From Here", tipping the focus towards a more groove-led piece. The track’s driven by short vocal snippets, lingering low-end bass, a resonant synth hook and a classic stab sequence driving the movement throughout. 
 Entering the B-Side we have the original mix of title track ‘Some Might Work’, opening with soft melodies, sweeping ethereal pads and a hooky saw-wave bass line, before the focal stages sees the cut come into fruition as the duo introduce vocal lines and layer up some additional melodic touches. 
Then to close the release Swiss artist Kellerkind (Noir Music) turns in an old school house interpretation of ‘Some Might Work’, blending vocal chops, cosseting house chords and a raw, bumpy bass hook to great effect.

The upcoming 'With Love & Voodoo' EP comes from Parisian artist Demian and there are two original tracks and three remixes, including one from returning collaborator and Meant Boss, Remain. The title-track has been a firm favourite in sets from Daniel Avery and Scuba and the buzz around the release is undeniable.

With the EP set to drop on February 24, we have the premiere of the amazing title-track and you can finally listen to it in its full glory. 'With Love & Voodoo' is mechanical, cosmic and features some stunning, sweeping synths.

Argentinian based 04LM makes a welcome return to Soma after a short hiatus with the thumping, yet emotive, Atichgate EP. Things may have been quiet on the production front but that has only strengthened the resolve of 04LM’s music as he wields these 3 new tracks with utmost supremacy. 

Atich opens the EP as 04LM delves into the Deep Techno spectrum with perfectly worked subby grooves, glistening, tight percussive elements and straight up haunting pads. Atichgate ramps up the pressure a little more as elastic grooves ride across a harder set low end, yet 04LM gives depth with his subtle atmospheres. Afterbye closes out the EP on a more hypnotic tip as circling percussion swirls round sea sub aquatic bleeps. Certainly one for those after hours moments.

A subtle, beautiful EP, 04LM has certainly crafted himself a fine sound and approach to electronic music.

Soma present a exclusive set of remixes taken from the debut album of the still unknown duo, Gemini Voice Archive. The pair have had an incredible journey so far on Soma with huge support across the techno world, made up of DJs & fans alike. The remix EP sees Slam, Inigo Kennedy & Matrixxman select their favourites from the album and give them their own interpretation.

Slam are up first with the space age Framauro’s Plains. The Soma label heads quickly and expertly delve head first with a fairly intense remix utilising the original’s hook but with more aggression. The maestro, Inigo Kennedy serves up a unique and almost Orchestral version of Singularity. He carves up the original beautifully adding finely tuned soundscapes. Closing out the EP is a more downbeat and dubbed out remix from Matrixxmann. His version of Significant Proportion of The Speed Of Light is a more subtle & atmospheric affair - typical of his style. 

There’s plenty more to come from the GVA boys with 2 more singles slated for 2018. Watch this space.

After the roaring success of the imprints debut EP, Nicoles very own In The Mood EP, MOODs second release sees Nicole stay true to her word and delivers a deep and hypnotic EP from relative-newcomers American Billy Johnston and Italian Gennaro Mastrantonio. On Rainy Billy and Gennaro combine with devastating effect to create a powerful and atmospheric techno cut. Beginning with pounding bass and crisp percussion the track progresses with a brooding vibe until a warm soaring synth appears, temporarily breaking through the darkness, resulting in an expertly-programmed track that is simultaneously dark yet uplifting and hypnotic. On the flip side Self Inflicted is a similarly striking and captivating track while also being the darker of the two tracks on offer. Its weighty foundation of tight drums and submarine-deep bass serve to create an air of anticipation and menace. From this foundation the duo allow the track to build and build, bringing the bass in and out skillfully creating tension while also balancing the mood against yet another glistening synth. On the Rainy EP MOOD has once again delivered a striking release that is steeped in the underground and one which befits a variety of atmospheres, sounding equally brilliant whether listened to at home or enjoyed on the dancefloor.

Reasons for the small break since last year’s seminal ‘Behind The Sun / The Chasedown’? A lot of remix work – which will see the light of day in the following months - and more importantly: finishing his long awaited debut album. The LP is called ‘Frames Of Reference’ and will be released this autumn. The 2 tracks on this single – a double a-side - are both featured on the album and should give you a taste of what flavours to expect.

‘On The Edge’ & ‘Perplexed’ complement each other perfectly. The first is a raw peak time cut, while the latter is a more atmospheric & hypnotic piece for the afterhours.
Both pieces bring display strong & intense techno with an incredible sense for depth & detail. Few seem to master these qualities like Ø [Phase] does.
