Slam continue their prolific activity in 2017 with their new 4 tracker, The Sanctuary EP. 

A year of relentless touring hasn’t stopped the Soma label heads from firing on all cylinders with each release, and this latest EP sees the duo turn up the heat once more.

The EP starts off with Conduction, a heady mix of crafted Techno and strong, tripped out melodic rhythms. The rigorous Rotation is up next and goes full tilt, drawing on the main sequenced tones to drive home a powerful and reactionary affair. Slam are always ones for creating great synergy within their releases and do so proficiently as the EP goes deeper with Convection. Subtle, modulating synths lead the charge and perfectly crafted percussive elements remain steadfast throughout. The duo close the EP with the title track Sanctuary. A vibrant, affair packed with pulsating tonality, as classic synthesis methods are used to immense effect.

Since starting Plus 8 Records at the turn of the ‘90s, Richie Hawtin has shaped not just the sound of electronic music, but also the culture and industry around it, like few others. He developed the tool that went on to change the art of DJing (Final Scratch), established a seminal club night in Ibiza (ENTER.), built a veritable techno empire (M_nus), and most importantly, released some of the most memorable music in techno history. Now the latter doesn’t happen all too often these days, so we’re even more excited to present a brand new recording under a new alias, 80XX. ‘Crawlr’ is one of four 80XX tracks recorded in Berlin this year to coincide with the release of Hawtin’s new album, From My Mind To Yours – a raw banger that channels the energy of the early ‘90s while demonstrating how this Red Bull Music

80XX - CRAWLR

DC172 comes on behalf of Brazilian born Vinicius Honorio, a now London based producer and DJ who is making some serious in-roads amongst a new breed of techno artists. Having already released on labels such as Pig&Dan’s Elevate and dubspeeka’s Skeleton, the next natural step in his progression comes in the form of a release on Drumcode. 

‘Through The Darkness’ is a masterclass in darkened techno grooves, with each one of the four tracks managing to show off Honorio’s skill as a producer and just why he is firing on all cylinders. The release kicks off with ‘Walking Shadow’, a track that has been a key part of Adam Beyer’s sets at the tail end of 2016 and in to the new year. This tense, brooding affair has certainly garnered a lot of attention of late and it’s clear to see why. The title track ‘Through The Darkness’ is a much more of a stripped back cut, jam-packed with a haunting vocal hook, driving basslines and slick drums. This is one for the late night mischief makers. ‘Desolate’ is another hard-hitter, managing to perfectly balance that signature Honorio groove and pounding drums that adds depth to his productions. The release closes with the atmospheric ‘Out For Blood’, which is loaded with vintage rave stabs and weighty basslines – This one is meant to played in dark and sweaty rooms.

Vinicius Honorio - Desolate - Drumcode - DC172

2016 was a standout year for Alan Fitzpatrick, with the Drumcode stalwart racing out of the gates in spectacular fashion with the release of his fabric 87 mix. A substantial amount of high profile shows followed, including appearing at the inaugural Junction 2 festival and closing the car park to a packed-to-the-rafters-crowd at Drumcode Halloween. He returns to Drumcode with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, marking his first appearance on the label since late 2016 when he remixed Moby’s seminal ‘Porcelain’.

The release opens with ‘Brian’s Proper Dun One’, a track which caused a Twitter meltdown on Alan’s profile when he first started playing it at the tail end of 2016. Loaded with sharp and pounding drums, this is an ethereal experience from start to finish and packs a real punch. It’s a no holds barred, certified main room anthem. ‘Wait A Second’ feat. mc r1bbz has been a staple of Adam Beyer’s sets of late and has been getting a lot of air time on Drumcode Radio. This rave inspired track takes a raw, stripped back approach and delivers a real killer blow. Alan sampled the vocals of mc r1bbz from an LTJ Bukem tape pack from the early 90s and the record tips its cap to early jungle raves around the M25. The release closes with ‘Trance, Init?’; A homage to Alan’s days first and foremost as a raver before he became a DJ, with his non-purist attitude when it comes to electronic music shining through. The breakdown is sure to be a hands in the air moment at festivals all over the globe this summer.

Nina Kraviz releases for the first time a full solo EP on her own label трип. ‘Pochuvstvui’ and ‘You Are Wrong’ briefly appeared before on her stand-out ‘fabric 91’ mix in December 2016. ‘You Are Wrong’ is a new version written for the EP release.

Manchester’s Cleric makes his Soma debut with the Twenty Fourteen EP. Having firmly stamped his name on the global Techno scene over the last few years on various labels and more recently is own CLERGY label, the young producer seeks to continue this run of form with this new 4 tracker. 

Cleric wastes no time with opening track ‘Nowhere Fast’ with it’s bone crushing percussive workouts leading the charge. The slightly more subtle Moxie picks up the baton. Bouncing rhythmic structures give way to a gentle pad midway through yet still retains a forward moving template. Dualistic Soul ups the tempo yet sees Cleric embarking on more of a journey - taking things from his punishing rhythms into more melodic territory. Closing out this debut Soma EP is Arctic Circle, it’s beginnings leaning on more sub heavy elements to create a dark and forceful track backed as usual with Cleric’s shifting rhythms. 

A great example of the new breed of UK Techno producers, Cleric is a welcome addition to the Soma roster.

Dynamic Ukrainian producer Yan Cook makes his debut on Soma Records with the Wide Angle EP. Active on the scene for some time now and releasing on a number of top flight labels, Yan delivers a devastating 4 track EP, chalked full of his distinctive sound. 

The ominous title Wide Angle kicks things off with thumping and tripped out low end and doesn’t hold back, firing straight out of the block with rapid percussion and twisted synth elements. Krater keeps up the pace with a more rolling and hypnotic feel; crushing rhythmic elements has Yan on full attack mode with this track. Blacklisted keeps up the aggressive vibes with sinister tones, growling basslines and yet more jarring and propulsive rhythms. Closing out with Red Stream, Yan continues with the malevolent vibes as dark and forbidding tones permeate throughout this perfectly crafted tool.

Yan Cook is yet another welcome addition to the ever growing roster of high quality talent on Soma.

Tensal returns to Soma with Before The Bonfire EP, the second single ahead of his forthcoming LP coming this May. Always pushing forward with his music, Tensal whips up a perfectly balanced 3 track release that straddles his more hypnotic sounds alongside deeper vibes. 

A side Quantico comes straight out the blocks with huge drums and well structured, syncopated percussion, building and swelling throughout with crashing cymbals leading into huge drops. Praxis serves up a classic slice of Tensal infused Techno. Creatively layered elements come together in perfect harmony to form a suitably hypnotic yet driving track. Cobertoria has Tensal traversing deeper territory as more subtle beats are coupled with entrancingly moulded pads lines and smooth filter sweeps - perfect for the after hours moments. 

Tensal, once again, shows his production prowess with this meticulously crafted release

Gemini Voice Archive are back and kick off 2018 with some fresh and exciting new material as they drop their latest EP, Magnetar. Since releasing their debut album with Soma last year, the duo have been busy in the studio collecting new material and this new EP has them back on fine form.

Black Holes Of Stellar Mass is a twisted, drone filled affair as dark, pervasive synths bellow across energetic drums and contorted tones. La Flecha Del Tiempo has a more subtle and hypnotic vibe as enigmatic pad elements drift across an animated body of crisp, percussive components, delivering a brooding and ominous track. Title track, Magnetar, closes out the EP staying on the hypnotic tip. GVA flex their muscles a little more however, with a tripped out bass line and more intense percussion but still manage to create depth with expert arrangements and flow. 

GVA once again impressed with their productions as they kick off their 2018 Soma account in style.

After a storming Soma debut at the tail end of 2017, Cleric returns with the Silent Kingdom EP. This typically intense and raucous new release features an epic VSK remix on the flip.

Phantom Limb opens the EP, all guns blazing. Calamitous percussion hammers through as twisted synth hooks tear the speakers with unrelenting drive. Tag X takes on a more hypnotic functionality yet still embodies Cleric's fierce, vigorous energy. Title track Silent Kingdom concludes Cleric's original tracks for the new EP and doesn't let up on intensity one bit. Pervasive rhythmic elements are bolstered by dystopic pads that cleave through the heart of the track creating an absolute killer, peak time cut. The in-form, Berlin based VSK, fresh from his Soma release under Symmetrical Behaviour offers his take on Silent Kingdom; a decidedly gritty affair he retains the deeper elements of the original but certainly ups the severity.

Another hard hitting and astute release from one of the UK's brightest talents.
