Portuguese Techno maestro Temudo is back once again on Soma Records with his latest EP, Not The End But A Change. A storming start to the year on Soma saw the young producer gaining huge plaudits for his music. His signature tripped out and driving sound is once again worked in with great attention to detail as 4 up tempo and hypnotic drive this latest release. 

Title track Not The End But a Change is a perfect example of why Temudo’s sound has become so sought after. His cleverly worked rhythms and sound design weave intricate patterns throughout the track and take on new life with every drop. The Beholder continues the hypnotic theme taking things a little deeper with wide, sweeping FX and subtle percussion driving an infectious groove. Self-centerd has a darker, edgier tone with pulsing sub bass, tweaked out percussive elements and anxiety inducing drones sending you over the precipice. Temudo closes out the EP with all guns blazing as Summaries dishes out machine gun like hit hats & punishing rhythms; made with minimalism in mind but delivered with maximal effect.

One of the most active players in techno, Portuguese DJ and producer João Rodrigues aka Temudo, after leaving his trademark sound on labels such as Blueprint, Soma and Mord returns on Klockworks and delivers two cuts of elegant, pure bred techno. In his words: “I think these two tracks truly represent my vision for minimalist techno: repetitive music reduced to its core elements, where the sequencing of sounds and their texture come together to form a solid idea with every detail being meticulously crafted and has a clear intention. I honestly associate these tracks to the label and I’m glad they have found the perfect home.”

A leader of the Portuguese wave in techno co-founding Hayes Collective while boasting acclaimed releases on Klockworks, Blueprint, and Soma, Temudo grabs the reins to take club music back to its days of audacity and risk taking. A more than promising up-and-comer turned modern reference, Temudo defends his reputation with a release showcasing depth in his various sonic universes and a deep understanding of his music’s history. For its seventh release, Temudo’s ‘Meteora’ is a logical next step for the club’s direction - a sweet spot between dancefloor efficiency and enduring aesthetic.

Combining the intrigue of mental soundscapes with the reliability of imposing rhythm, ‘Meteora’ finds itself collected, expressing effect through restraint. The title track, claiming the EP’s A1, is just that - a force of interweaving sound design and powerful micro transitions. Some believe the best techno records are able to express emotion and attitude despite its dissonant and machinelike nature; if that’s the case then Temudo has mastered the craft. ‘When I Grow Up’, however, puts the focus back on the body. What sounds like warbling tape modulation over a percussive lead makes this record an addictively delirious ride from start to finish, fitting in with the track before while shifting to different priorities. Proving his versatility, ‘Vrthng’ at first seems reminiscent of the minimal Berlin style with a higher pace, but quickly progresses into something intensely euphoric. With experience and measure, an out of the box approach can really pay off, and the added emotion in ‘Vrthng’ is certainly a turning point in the EP. This mindset is clearly carried over in the project’s conclusion : ‘It’s Always Past’. A surprising use of harmony and storytelling, this final chapter ends with Temudo sealing his style with confidence. The track is mystified by its chords, ending ‘Meteora’ with a question mark that leaves us in anticipation for what Temudo dares to do next.

Charles Fenckler delivers the first single to be taken from his debut album Diving From The Void, the furious Stellar Acid, backed by a formidable remix from fellow countryman, Francois X. 

Classic rave vibes are the order of the day on Fenckler’s original track as the notorious sound of the 303 wreaks havoc, peaking and resonating intensely as straight up percussion and ominous pads provide the backbone to this dance floor burner. Soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is Envoy’s timeless classic, Dark Manoeuvres. Originally released as part of the “Coalition EP’ in 1996 (which also featured the classic Seawall), Hope Grant’s instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every Techno DJs record box and has continually served as a beacon of Soma since it’s release Four new versions are served up here as Dax J, Norman Nodge, Obscure Shape & SHDW plus Tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this Soma classic.

Dax’s furious style is the opener as he uses the original chords as they were intended but all the time firing his concussive drum patterns directly to the dance floor. Ostgut Ton’s Norman Nodge turns in a delectable dub version in only the way he can by keeping Envoy’s original muted and delivering a subtle, introverted version. The duo of Obscure Shape & SHDW are next up and delivery one epic take on Dark Manoeuvres. The pair build the tension early, teasing the strings then unleashing an onslaught, adding their own beautifully led, string section before hammering home. PoleGroup’s Tensal closes out our first Soma 25 releases, twisting and cutting the hook to suits his means as thunderous beats work away behind this solid tool.

With much more on the horizon, Soma has their gaze fixed firmly on the future of Techno

Masked Techno assassin Buried Secrets returns for his 2nd EP with Soma with the ‘Of Lost Things EP’. Rave infused, hard hitting, face pounding Techno is standard from Buried Secrets and this latest release is nothing less than that. The EP feature two stellar remixes from two of techno’s most exciting acts in Obscure Shape & SHDW and Inhalt Der Nacht. Both of whom stamp their own unique style on the originals. 

Title track Of Lost Things opens the A side in true Buried Secrets style as euphoric synths are balanced perfectly against driving, punishing kicks and sub. Obscure Shape & SHDW turn their production prowess to Of Lost Things with a straightforward and direct Tool Mix of the original.  Harnessing the power of the synth hook and warping it to their will. On the flip, Affliction Of The Absent renders more high octane Techno. More minimalistic throughout, the industrial vibes are still prominent with subtlety being the key. Inhalt Der Nacht turns in a more cinematic driven affair with his remix of Affliction Of The Absent. A slow burner that utilises epic sound design showing 432ha fantastic and generally unheard, side to his productions.

Rebekah returns to Soma with four relentless techno cuts on ‘The Bitter Boys Club EP’.

Following the recent ‘Ghost Stories’ EP on her own Elements label, the Birmingham born, Berlin-based artist brings yet another bout of the uncompromising and brutal techno she is renowned for to Slam’s lauded imprint.

Kicking things into gear is the titular ‘The Bitter Boys Club’, with staccato claps and wriggling synths whirling around the ‘twisted’ vocal sample, forming a tense and hypnotic cut. Biting, high-attack kick drums play off rhythmic scraping FX in ‘Lock n’ Load (One for the Road)’, creating a searing and continually evolving track hellbent on sonic annihilation.

‘Necromancer’ conjures images of the track title as ghostly, spectral textures carry the track alongside its razor-sharp percussion. Rounding off the release, ‘Confession Tape’, treads an eerie, unnerving path with pitch-shifting choral tones skillfully intertwining with an intricate but hefty bedrock of drums and low end.

‘The Bitter Boys Club EP’ sees Rebekah developing her sound, further distilling the techno templates of Birmingham and Berlin into something distinctly her own.

Finnish “Absence of Facts” label head Orion debuts on Naked Lunch with a strong three track EP with remixes from Vinicius Honorio and DJ Dextro.

The three originals explore the various branches of techno: “Loweb” is a moody looping melodic tool while “Boreos” is a straight-forward bass heavy club track. The EP’s title track “Gashadokuro” lives up to its name - borrowing its name from the mythical creatures in Japanese mythology the broken beat techno track is full of twists and groove.

Vinicius Honorio from the ARTS  & Modularz  fame takes the breakbeat track Gashadokuro and turns it into a heavy 4/4 techno tool with his signature funk. DJ Dextro, recently debuted on Gynoid Audio, brings Gashadokuro to more hypnotic, darker direction.

Gashadokuro EP is out on Naked Lunch on December 2nd.

External factors can really affect our mental state and bring out our most different feelings. We did a special selection of sound vibrations to influence a certain hypnosis passing by calm and relaxation, to physical expression, anger and fury.
An intense journey straight to the dancefloor, 'Mental Influences' our 6th release, a purpose of sound therapy made by 16 artists splitted on 14 tracks including 2 collaborations.

Enemy Records is the Berlin-based imprint from Dustin Zahn and that’s seen recent contributions from artists including Flug, Psyk, Mark Broom, Emmanuel, Rrose and many more.

Italian Biemsix made the journey to the European melting pot in pursuit of his passion for music, that has seen him rise steadily with his creative explorations released on fantastic projects such as Re:Axis’ Monocline, Thema, Invite’s Choice, Symbolism and Machine Label that are both ran by Ben Sims.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the closing track “Gere und Frecke” that is a pacey yet melancholic tail of captivation. Bells ring and chime over fidgeting percussion hits culminating in a fascinating mood that’s nothing short of an exquisite piece of perfectly experimental techno.
