Lost My Shadow

Recorded live at the Sweet's Ballroom in Oakland, California. Home of one of the first Ecstatic Dance communities, on Sunday, March 10, 2024.

This day was an incredible experience. Though it was only 1 of the 17 dances I played in under 25 days along my West Coast ecstatic dance tour, this one was special. Oakland and Sweet's Ballroom is home to one of the first Ecstatic Dances ever. It was here, inspired by what was originally created at Kalani on the Big Island of Hawaii, that a large enough community was slowly built in the Bay Area of California to inspire others and help spread Ecstatic Dance around the world.

Over the last few years, I have had the privilege to DJ at around 80 Ecstatic Dance communities around the world, and see this widespread ecstatic vibe spread far and wide.

This is why this mix is dedicated to the Oakland community of Ecstatic Dancers. Each part of this set includes themes of Sweet, Oakland, and California. With rap artists such as Too Short, Digable Planets, and Childish Gambino, to wise greats such as Bob Marley, Tems, and Tupac. This set is both high energy and deep and bassy. With lots of lyrics and effects. 

I owe a lot of gratitude to the Oakland dance scene and this was an attempt to give the dancers a great vibe to go wild to. It was a vibe! The day was a big energy and the dancers met with high regard. It was an honor. Thanks to all who were there that day to be a part of the experience and thanks to all the dancers that show up throughout the years from day one until now. You have my heart.
