It's hard to overstate the role @bokbok has had in shaping the sound of the UK underground over the last decade. Along with his Night Slugs label and the effervescing eco-system of artists around it, he has been a master mutator of everything from grime to bass, techno to r&b. Pairing thrilling futurism with innovative functionality has always been his MO, whether DJing, working on his own tunes, or producing for the likes of Warp's Kelela. In March he continued to push on with new label AP Life, which launched with a collection of UK drill and grime instrumentals from Nammy Wams. 

Bok Bok has always been about the club. Everything he touches is designed to make them as dynamic and interesting as possible. Although those spaces remain off-limits to us for another few weeks, this week's mix will transform any setting into a dance floor with its punchy rhythms and Day-Glo colours. Muscular drums remain a foundation throughout, whether getting funky, broken up or slammed down hard. On top of those, the sleek samples and synths bring a subtly euphoric mood - a perfect tease for the big return that is just around the corner.

I was on 12.30-14.30 on Saturday afternoon. When I started playing, grey hazy clouds were still drifting across the panorama from Friday night’s storm, and by the end of my set, the sun was shining down on all of us.

This set meant a great deal to me, and being gifted the task of drifting from ambient expansion into trippy rhythms, coaxing everyone up off the floor and into movement, was such a dream.

Hope you enjoy this memory from an amazing weekend in those magical mountains 🧚✴️

Hi Gi Gi! Recently Gi Gi released this amazing new album on Index Records. This mix is made to accompany that release, and it wholehearted hit some of the same moods textures as on the record.
We came in touch with Gi Gi’s sound through this gorgeous cassette on Quiet Time Tapes, followed by the one on Good Morning Tapes. Check them both. This mix is like the shimmering of the sunshine after a rainy day. Triphop & broken RnB into the periphery of your dreams.

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Colombo-Canadian male, 33 yrs old, 5’11 ft, 170 lbs.

Q. How long have you been a part of the Mexico City music scene?
A. I’ve only been here since last March and feel that I’m just starting to get to know the city in general. The positive energy that I’ve felt from everyone from the techno to the cumbia scenes here is what has made me want to stay and get to know the city and country more. I’ve also been lucky enough to meet people like DJ Guccichotas, Joyce Musicolor, Jasmanic, Irma Ruiseñor and the EXT crew who have all welcomed me into their scenes and shown me so much love and support. 

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. This mix was recorded in the 15th floor of Torre Zacatecas in Tlatelolco, Mexico, after having just moved into a new apartment. We had cdjs for the weekend after my roommate had rented them for her birthday so I took a shot at recording something with Juanita's in mind and it was honestly one of the most natural and fun sessions.

SonarMix 016: Manuka Honey

"Kicks and more kicks" in a mix that explores "the subgenres of hardcore", combining them with drill, trap, hyperpop, and even traditional Spanish music. Parkineos goes from 170 to 220 bpm over an hour-long SonarMix that gives a taste of what he'll play on 17th June at Sónar by Night.
