Young songwriter Marcus King’s debut album, Soul Insight, which arrives on October 30 via Evil Teen Records, displays his stunning command of rock, blues, psychedelia, funk, soul and improvisation — all with a distinctly Southern musical accent. It also brings the 19-year-old a step closer to his musical destiny.

Call him the next Duane Allman or Jimi Hendrix, but whatever you do, don’t call Marcus King a child prodigy. Sure, the 19-year-old guitar shredder’s talent shimmers with the same resonance as his heroes, but he’s been wielding an axe since he learned to talk - he started playing when he was 2. Marcus was born into music, gifted with steel-string DNA and two generations of men before him who nurtured the boy’s musical nature.

Marcus still continues to grow, to experiment, to share his passions. He’s an engaged and engaging young man with a lifetime of experience, still coming into his own, still carrying his guitar with him, and promising us all a promising future.

Rainy Day Blues - Sunshine Breaking Through
This little song was recorded December 10, 2016 at EchoCosmic Studios, Alameda, CA, USA. 
Fender thin line semi hallow telecaster with various English amps. Echo and panning done in post. 
Fender jazz bass, Pearl traveler drums. Written in 6/8 at 72 bpm, Key of B major.  Second act 6/8 at 160 bpm. Fender twin on lead for second section. 

Jimi Hendrix has had a significant impact on my thinking. If you are familiar with my work, you may already know that. This is the first slow blues I have ever recorded or released. When I got electric lady land my mind changed with what music could be, and even when I write classical he is sitting with me, teaching me. I really never made another connection like that in music, maybe to Debussy, but Jimi moves me, spiritually, in a musical way that's unique. I offer nothing but respect for his impact on my playing, I thank him, his family and his fans world wide for keeping Jimi's music alive year after year. Peace.

Musically here... I just play what I feel and like, like many. Translating _it_ into the best sound I could do at the moment, hoping to let out some of grooves and vibes boiling my head constantly. Might be messy, bumpy, puzzling, but this is what it is. By design. Crystal Ripples continues my "Impressionism in Music" series. I love to induce and provoke, rather than impose. All for creative listening experience, so we collab, co-create.... Thank you.

Fender Stratocaster finger picking and (slightly) distorted basslines and twangs. Tones are using Line 6 hardware Pod XT. Post Line6 and IK Multimedia Amplitube.  Korg Synths, including Gadget tool Brussels, which solemnly soloing at 0:50. All synths sounds transitions achieved by playing physical knobs on my Arturia controller. All 37 lines of guitars, perc, synth total are assembled in Ableton Live 9 and mastered with IK Multimedia.

Tired of the cold. Tired of winter. Made some recordings but couldn’t get interested. Tried chopping up the recording, didn’t like that either. Instead left the recording whole with 3 different glasses, cube drops and swirls. Made 8 instances in Cubasis with staggered starts and staggered panning left to right. Then bounced and started playing with speed, then it got darker and I went downhill from there. Lots of bounces and freezing ended up at a barely recognizable cube sound but cold and dark nonetheless. Added an Animoog patch and messed with the low end. Not great but fitting of my inner winter demon.
