Uber-Cool atmosphere--definitely Sipping the Sap:)

I dared to try my hand at a "Lullaby". The piece was created with Cubase 12 and some VST. I hope you like it. If so, I'm looking forward to your comments  - if you haven't fallen asleep ;-)

Composition – The Eclectic Collective

This song began with a bass part that Jeff came up with and shared with Stephen, who had added some fiery guitar and foundational rhythm guitar to it. However, it languished on his digital shelf for many months as two parts, until he recently remembered that he had it. So, he decided to share it with the rest of the group. We were salivating, all of us, when we heard Jeff's bass line, so we began with Ken laying in the groovy drums and the tight, driving percussion, which propels the entire song. Once we had a beat, we decided to edit the part to include the break you hear about a minute into it. Mark took on that task, and deftly added the bass in that section, too.
Josh was up next, and decided to add a rhythm guitar inspired by Talking Heads. Once he had done that, he started hearing a simple, catchy melody in the main verse part, too, so he came up with some simple lyrics and recorded the vocals for that. At the same time this was happening, Ken also came up with some lyrics and a vocal melody for the breakdown part, which he added. After Ken had added his vocals, Josh added a harmony part on them. He also added the lap slide melody you hear in that section, as well.
JJ was next up to bat, laying in the breathtaking organ throughout. He also backdropped a canvas of synthesizer throughout and put in some electric piano too. Tez came along not long after and added the ripping guitar solo in the jam section. Once everyone had added their parts, it was up to Stephen to produce, mix, and master it. He arranged and added some length to it, then mixed it in his usual expert manner.
This is the first song the Eclectic Collective has done with Jeff, though Stephen has worked with him in the past, and we were all fans of his music, and thus very excited for the chance to make music with him. Hopefully, this will be the first of many.

pervasive peppermint aroma permeates
the cat's olfactory self as it passes
the ice-cream truck nestled next to
the bridge made of slowly flowing steel,

thermal tarmac and as red a coat of paint
as cinematic cone cells can fathom - elsewhere,
a heron's solitary silhouette complements selves
unabashedly spread across playground noise -

if humans had never touched down
on these waters, soils, the river would
have run another course - wind
might have shed its aeolean pride,

The only symbol or Emoji I used before becoming active on social media was the heart and happy face.  I have since expanded my knowledge at least 500%! However, I would rather write or say what I'm feeling, and I don't like the guessing game when texting with others.  BUT, I do have a favorite Emoji, Sparkles!  I love the overarching meaning of celebration, excitement, joy, happiness, love of life, and gratitude.  I also love pairing sparkles with the heart (my second favorite Emoji) to mean a deeper feeling of admiration and love.  When I started to create this piece, the tones and melody sparkled with shimmering magic.  The style of Impressionism is just that! I hope you love the sparkle too!

methods: even more platforms, even more instruments (the guiding oscillation is created with a stylophone in a single take), even more effects and pedals than in the first verse, the key progresses from no sharps and flats (C/a) to two of the sharp kind (D/h) with variations beyond the major/minor modes - also, where the first verse employed time/duration manipulation more than anything else, the second verse focusses on the analog/digital 'divide'

POETRY IS VITAL

This threshold space exists for those who feel like listening to some of my quite professional poetry embedded in rather amateurishly recorded but judiciously arranged sound, a modicum of purely acoustic work notwithstanding. SOUND, SPACE AND TIME

Tend your listening senses gently. Even though my general approach welcomes and embraces lo-fi concepts like the precision of spontaneously occuring imprecisions, headphones worth their membranes are recommended - unless you like your sounds flat, mangled, battered and helpless. You don't, do you? Be kind to these soundscapes.

STRUCTURING IMPULSE

Due to the nature of "poetry soundscapes", your listening expectations regarding traditionally structured "songs", sonically purified "raw wildlife soundscapes", keyboard-laden "ambient recordings" or voice-centered "readings" might not be met. You will find some of those in my list of /likes/. "Noise" is a recurring structural element like any other. This is what this sounds like - within its own rights, limitations, tangents and interconnections. Sonic structures. Silent stretches. Poetry emerges from the gaps between the ruts, seeps in from the undergrowth, sweeps down.

Above, there is a tiny poem of mine that I do not understand how to translate into sound. If you do - please act on it. It is a matter of common decency, of course, to keep the title (Small Gifts) and to credit the lyrics to me (jo richter). And please do notify me of your version via a soundcloud message. One bewilderingly beautiful version crafted by mono-lux has already gone public, as well as an amazing version by cthonicist.  You'll find both in my playlist Sympoetic Ultrasounds. This is just a small gift, not a challenge - life already has more than enough of those on offer, doesn't it? Treat it this way.
