Pearsall's Artist/Label Tribute Mixes

For my final mix of 2021 I'm dropping something I've wanted to do for quite some time, and that I'm very excited to share with you ... my tribute to the amazing 90's output of the one and only @armandvanhelden! I know I generally don't do much house music stuff, but I've been a fan of his stuff for literally 25 years, so I thought the moment was right to put together a little something special. The mix is a selection of 30 of his tracks and remixes, organized in chronological order from 1993 to 1997 (OK, there are a few from '93 and '98, but the principle still holds), which allows you to really hear how his sound progressed over the course of just a few years. 

Given the man's unbelievably prolific output in those years you could do such a mix in so many ways, so it goes without saying that this is just my take - I've left a few of the most obvious anthems out (the Tori Amos and Sneaker Pimps remixes most obviously), but I think that I've included a lot of great tunes, some famous, others more obscure.

I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I enjoyed putting it together!

I hesitated for a long time to post this mix for a number of reasons which in the end, on reflection, are completely unfounded.
2009 was a rich and important year in my career as a dj. At the time I was playing on Tractor vinyl, so all the tracks I played disappeared when my laptop burnt out, and I'd just bought a brand new mixer, my Xone 62, which took me to a new technical level.
I'd like to thank Valery B for asking me to do this mix for his radio show l'Ouvre Boite on Radio RAJE.
I'm sorry I lost the tracklist, but I remember playing 2 tracks by my brother Little J aka Jus GRUV, the first of which was in the mix, followed by STL, Move D, Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues, Marco Bernardi and more.

Fenstern (A Second Mala Tribute)

If you're like me, you're spending a lot of time at home at the moment, and, assuming you are staying healthy (I hope so!), you need some music to listen to, right? I got you covered! This is a tribute to the early recordings of the legendary @djhypednb, East London's original scratchmaster and rave hero. To show off the amazing changes in his music back in the 90's, this mix takes four of his tracks / remixes from each year from 1993 to 1998 and then lines them up in chronological order, so that you can clearly hear the progression from hardcore to jungle to jump-up to early liquid funk. Enjoy!

Gimme The Funk Gimme the Funk (DJ Hype 1993-1998)

What better way to celebrate the tenth edition of my Squat Rocking series of mixes dedicated to the sounds of London's squat party scene than with a tribute to the one and only Chris Liberator? Awesome dj, fantastic producer, this mix pulls together 27 of his solo productions, collaborations, and remixes from the 1990's, all mixed on vinyl by myself in one single unplanned and totally improvised set. Squat Rocking 10: Chris Liberator in the 90's (Tribute to London acid techno legend)

One of my hands-down favorite electro labels is Berlin's mighty @mechatronicamusic, a label and party collective run by @mejle, @electrodon, @milanhermess and @daribone, so I've put together a mix of a track each from (almost!) the first twenty releases (I didn't include number 19 because it's not really my thing - sorry!), covering their powerful electro sound that draws from artists across Europe.
