I've been a dj for 25 years (1997!) so I thought I would put together a set of playlists to celebrate my mix output over the years. Eurotrash 7 [Old Skool European Acid Techno Mix]

Here is the latest edition of my long-running Eurotrash mix series, dedicated to the best of 90's European (and a little UK) hard trance and hard acid. This edition is a little bit more sedate than some of the others, starting at 135 bpm and ending at 150 bpm, but it's still packed full of absolutely killer tracks, both classic and obscure. As ever, this is mixed completely on vinyl.

Eurotrash 2 (Old Skool European Hard Trance)

A big shout to the @smilingcorpse crew for asking me to take part in their long-running Dead Happy Podcast series. I was of course delighted to take part, especially because by a funny coincidence this was both episode 23 of the series as well as volume 23 of my own Rampage Turbo series. Since I have a pretty comprehensive collection of freeform vinyl, I was asked if I could provide a bit of a history lesson in the freeform sound, and I was very happy to oblige!

What you have here is 100 minutes of some of the finer tunes from the early days of the freeform sound - basically, these were the building blocks behind what we enjoy today. I didn't want to just repeat Bonkers 2 to 5, so with this mix I really tried to dig a bit deeper, which is why there is everything from pitched-up hard trance from X-Cabs and Jon the Dentist to Choci's unique brand of acid trance madness and early tunes from Kevin Energy and Sharkey, as well as some of the lesser-known releases from labels like Digital Beats and Bonkers. Hopefully this gives you a coherent overview of the evolution of this music that is, at the same time, also completely fucking rocking.

Few electronic music genres are more misunderstood or the subject of greater hostility than trance. But that's because a lot of it was and is terrible. But not the collected works of Nuclear Hyde ... this is real trance music.

So what is their sound and why do I think it is more real trance than the music of, say, Tiesto?

Well, above all, their music fulfilled the core imperative of trance - it was relentless, hypnotic music where percussive sounds were balanced with melodic flashes, where the energy came from the balance of elements not from taking the easy route of sounding really 'hard'. Pulsing, bouncing, driving - pick your adjective, they all basically describe the sound perfectly. Tracks that didn't rely on obviously anthemic elements to keep the dancefloor engaged and excited. And all of the tracks perfectly engineered with exemplary German precision to sound just gorgeous on a big sound system.

Squat Rocking 7: The D.A.V.E. The Drummer Tribute (Acid Techno) [The 780 Project Part 9]

The first of two mixes I have done in tribute to London's legendary Escape From Samsara - one of *the* great hard trance party crews of all time. They popped my raving cherry at age 16 at Brixton's Fridge, and so I thought it was only appropriate to put together an epic 50 track tribute that runs for 210 minutes and total and from 135 to 170 bpm. Along the way I've also tried to pay tribute to Samsara's special vibe, as well as to feature many of the dj's and live acts that were perennial favorites at the party, including of course the legendary residents Beamish and Oberon. Rampage Turbo 10 (Celebrating 10 Years of Finrg)

30x3 is three mixes, each with 30 tracks, each dedicated to a different chapter in the story of how electronic musicians have utilized the Roland TB-303.

This is the second mix in the series, and it's dedicated to something very close to my heart indeed: acid trance! Few things in my life have matched the sheer wild-eyed pleasure of raving to acid trance music - the euphoric power of trance mixed with the frenzied mayhem of acid? Yes please!

For this mix I have dug deep into my crates to pull together a very loving exploration of this sound, mostly (but not exclusively!) from the 90's, covering all things both acidic and trancey, from pulsing 140 bpm hypnosis to crazed 180 bpm fireworks.

I've been really inspired by the Facebook group Lockdown Legends recently, which has dredged up memories of all the fun times I had clubbing in London from the late 90's to early 2000's, dancing to hard energetic sounds at parties like Frantic, Undertow, Pendragon, Antiworld, Milk, Oblivion, Superfish, etc, so I pulled out a big stack of vinyl and put together this epic thirty track, two hour nostalgia trip.
