Blue Diamond Fog

Some days have been harder than others to go through. I lose track of what day it is because of the isolation. There is sadness knowing there are millions of people who are grieving the loss of their family and friends this year that should not have happened this way.  There are many more that don't know they are on the list. I've worked hard to make it to this point. There is so much more music to play and give away hoping to leave a piece of me with them. As I play I have another great grandbaby on the way. will my music be the only way they get to know me. I guess that depends.

This piece has other instruments, 4 tracks, which often changes the story. I have also uploaded just the piano where all the music begins. The music is layered one improv over the others. There is no mixing, only what I hear in my head as I play. It can't be changed. It is what it is, what I'm feeling at that moment.  The music is completed usually in 20-30 minutes. It either works or it doesn't.

Bellevue

I live in New York. Manhattan, in fact. Isn't that grand? I live in Bellevue. I cannot care for myself; I have episodes. I don't know or recall what they are like, what I do or did and I am told that it is of no consequence now. I have never asked how long I must stay. Nor have I ever asked myself whether I could deal with the answer. I am here and warm and that is fine.

I have my medicine when I wake. The chalky pellets are important to me. They signify another day. Another chance to let colours, murmurs, shadows, faces, routines, aromas wash through me. I may lay for hours on my cheek and drink in the clips of shoes, the clatters of trolleys, the distant dulling boathorns, the hum of the lamps. Vinnie may come over and pull out a fistful of hair from the side of his head. He always gifts it to me, with a gentle bow, pinching it between his fingers like a tiny posie. A blessing. Maddie used to come over with her bedsheets cradled in her arms to show me Esther, her newborn. A blessing, too.

I used to want to run through Kips Bay, down to the railings by the river, breathing the noise and smelling the whole vastness of the city. But now I like my tiny universe...a few square yards of white walls and gunmetal grey floors. When Donald takes me on his arm to the trees outside, the tang of taxi fumes, cigarettes and street food is too piquant, too otherly.

Back inside I write you a letter, like I do everyday. But the thoughts never come. Nor do the words. I drink in the beautiful, small phenomena around me. I usually draw the shapes of my thoughts because you like these things...I remember. Donald will post it, he promises. But maybe he's just saying that. If I die, you should marry Donald. He could look after you. Momma was talking to you, the last time I saw you both, but I don't know what she said. I don't like to ask them how you are.. perhaps you could write? That would be a blessing.

My music pieces are all piano improvisations expressing emotions. It is music telling stories without the words. In my earIy years I sang and played piano in piano bars or fronted bands of different styles, from country to heavy metal and to 40. I've been composing, teaching and performing most of my life.  I'm getting old(er) now 😔 but the great thing about creating music is it gets better the longer you play, and you have more to write about! 

This is what I leave of me to my generations to come who wonder where their desire to make music comes from. My mother, grandmother and great grandmother were both accomplished pianists when they were young. My son is also exceptional.  My great grandmother and gr grandfather sang and danced in minstrel shows (vaudeville) in the early 1900's. Kids today have no idea what life was like before moving pictures.  I now have great-grandchildren. They will know who I am through my music. When I am gone my music will still be here. What a wonderful thought! 

I have been passionately creating music for a considerable amount of time. My vibe is mainly Rap, Rock and Pop. My purpose in writing music goes beyond mere entertainment. I am driven to compose songs that serve as a source of encouragement, inspiration, and upliftment, carrying a message of hope deeply rooted in the truth that Jesus died for the sins of man. Through my music, I strive to share my personal journey and experiences, revealing how Jesus is an integral part of my life and the creative process.
