David Lucas and his late father, Bill Lucas, an acclaimed Sydney architect attended my voice workshops held by the "Once Extra Dance Company" back in the "80's". Adventurous , creative souls with no holds barred on what was the beginnings of Danse Danse. It was then called "Dance Out Of Beat" and was a commentary on the club scene that I'd very much been a part of in the "60's" In recent times I invited Annette Scott on board who has brought it brilliantly to fruition along with my longtime collaborator, Jazz pianist/composer, Kirk Kadish. Now we have a new take on the current dance scene with a touch of empowerment as to whom has the final moves.

Delighted to present my latest collaboration with The Phaige, one half of Soundcloud stalwarts One and Other, alongside Jaime J Ross. This is a trippy, exotic backcloth with a cold North wind blowing through. 
Gary once again amazed with his creativity and his multi-layered production. He has such a keen ear for detail and brushstrokes to enhance and improve. What grabbed me from the outset was the slinky, fluid bass playing, but there are many levels across the frequencies to hook you in. Always a fun process to work with him.

Hey… how’s it going on your end of SoundCloud? Winter’s been holding on tight here, with cold weather and plenty of snow on the ground. Nothing like what is happening right now in the mountains of CA though. With the cold weather, I got a chance to record a new song. It has a mythological theme, loosely based on the snaky haired Medusa. I am probably the only (male) musician to have gazed into her eyes and was not turned into stone. So I had to sing this tale. A little backstory… This ties into a teenage memory of my first crush, because she had a dark, powerful mystique. I called her a snake goddess. (That did not go well.) You can see where I am going with this….. haha. Freud had a field day in his psychological analysis of Medusa in Das Medusenhaupt… but this song is more of a romantic love song in its interpretations, as you will hear in the lyrics and by listening to my enchanted recorder playing as I charm the sacred snakes in Medusa’s hair. I believe that is a first: Haha.  And let’s not forget the poetically romantic implications of the first kiss… OK, hope you like this song. And glad you dropped by. Mark

Rich, pampered girl from Abilene, Texas meets a trail-worn cowboy with a checkered past, and they head north to avoid her family's scrutiny. It's a doomed relationship from the start, of course, and only lasts until the snow breaks.  Abilene comes calling - she heads back home, and the cowboy does what all cowboys in trouble do (at least in the songs I listen to) - he splits for the border.  True story?  Maybe...
 
The timeline in the song is a little convoluted - begins in the middle and then back to the start, then to the end and back to the middle etc.,..   But you old cowhands will figure it out.
