For The Rust Music's 50th release, we're incredibly honored to present Zonra's latest work, the Hypotheticals EP. Hailing from Santa Rosa, CA and wielding international appeal, Zonra's musical exploits are defined by lush textures and meticulous songwriting. 

With a new record comes a new conceptual direction, and Hypotheticals strays far from the quantized pack, materializing as a blend of off-kilter melodies and staccato rhythms that churn out potent, asynchronous riffs. Pulling influence from the aggressive neuro staples of today's cutting-edge bass music in-between reverberant melodies and slapstick phrases, Zonra stands apart from his contemporaries in his ability to give delicate sound design choices a weighty impact.

Zen Baboon are Daniel Rosado and Henrique Palhavã. Both were born in the '70s in Portugal and since an early age kept a close connection with the musical world, focusing on great sound quality and original construction.

Daniel is a sound engineer that worked in a studio in Lisbon and started producing electronic music in the late 90′s.  Henrique, a zoologist, lives and works in his own farm and started as an ambient DJ, (DJ Henriq) and producer in 2001.

They got together in 2003 and decided to melt their musical preferences and create Zen Baboon.

Winter had fallen in the witch’s forest and the days were at its darkest.  Many animals were hibernating in safe places in trees or under the ground, and the woods had gone quiet.  And the remaining animals were all preserving their energy during these dark, drizzly days.  Even for the little witch, the days were getting a bit boring.  The only times her heart started to beat a bit faster were the moments she was thinking back about the first encounter with her wizard, now eight months ago.  After that short, but passionate first encounter he had left for a long trip to his ancestral grounds in Africa.  This may seem strange, but actually that’s the way witches and wizards tie up, forming lifelong alliances and being totally faithful to each other, while at the same time seeing each other rarely, as wizards are nomadic beings while witches dedicate themselves fully to one single forest.  So a separation of 8 months is nothing unusual and the witch wasn’t the least bit worried.  Yet every day, when doing her inspection round around her forest, she always made sure she passed by the Southern edge of the forest, peering at the horizon to get a first glimpse of her returning lover.  And so it went, day after day, while the seasons passed in the ever-changing forest until one morning in mid-winter.  Finally snow had fallen, and the forest looked even more magic than usual.  The witch found her energy back and started very early with her daily inspection round, as always accompanied by her trusted shepherd dog.  Also the animals of the forest – who had all become quite listless and lethargic during the previous weeks – came back to life and started to run around and frolic with each other in the snow.  The witch also joined in, and soon she was rolling in the snow, playing with her dog and with a family of rabbits.  She laughed and giggled merrily, and soon more animals joined in the spontaneous outburst of pure joy.  After a while, they all became a bit tired and the girl was lying down in the fresh snow, catching her breath.  While all the sounds calmed down, the witch noticed that the forest was unusually quiet.  And she realized this could only mean one thing.  Her heart started to throb and she jumped up from excitement.  And after meticulously combing her hair (which was in a real mess after all that frolicking) she ran as fast as she could to the Southern edge of the forest…

Spieglein Spieglein an der Wand, 
wer sind die wahren Narren hier im Land?

Til Eulenspiegel erblickte um das Jahr 1300, in einem kleinen Dorf namens Kneitlingen am Elm, dass Licht der Welt. Um die historisch belegte Person Eulenspiegel ranken sich eine Menge Geschichten und märchenhafte Erzählungen. Er hatte eine Vorliebe für makabere Scherze und Streiche. So nahm er z. B. Bildsprache wörtlich und somit andere auf den Arm. Till spiegelte seinen Mitmenschen ihre Unzulänglichkeiten wieder und machte sich über ihren begrenzten Horizont lustig. Mit seinen Späßen übte er Kritik am Status Quo, rhetorisch versiert und geschickt verpackt, prangerte er gesellschaftliche Missstände an. 

Der heute oft mit Narrenkappe dargestellte Eulenspiegel, vereint Gesellschaftskritik und "zynisch-satanistische Züge" in einer Figur. Er ist ein Symbol für den schmalen Grad zwischen erzieherischer Belehrung und selbstgefälliger Schadenfreude. 
Humoristisch eingebettete Kritik erfordert Geschick und kognitive Befähigung, ist aber auch ein Zeichen für gesellschaftlichen Abschwung. Autoritäre Herrschaft, repressive Machtstrukturen und fehlende Meinungsfreiheit könnten eine Ursache sein.

Eulenspiegel hat für uns ein rundes und stimmiges Set aufgenommen. Der rote Faden schlängelt sich anmutig durch das 99 minütige Machwerk und läutet nun auch akustisch den Sommer ein.

DJ/Producer Andrew Swailes AKA "Mr. Squires"(Otres Crew) Cambodia has a love of music that has led him across the Globe following the music to Ibiza, Berlin, European Festivals and the Australian Bush Party Scene. It was at the Eclipse Festival, Australia 2012 that everything changed for him.
