The latest release from Deersky’s Soundteller Records welcomes Lucas Rossi back to the label for his debut EP. The Argentinean artist first appeared on the Polish imprint in October of 2017 with an excellent remix of ‘Monsoon’ by Danidu & Subandrio. March of this year saw Lucas return and remix another Sri Lankan star in Nishan Lee, before eventually going on to a release with Antrim’s Or Two Strangers. Also holding Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden on his discography, Lucas now presents his first artist showcase for Soundteller entitled ‘Traveller’.

Beginning with ‘Random’ Lucas explores the pure progressive sensibilities for which he’s become so beloved. Warm, inviting and undeniably smooth, it’s a creation which quickly captures your imagination, pulsating with swing heavy momentum as wispy effects, electric lines and atmospheric drifts further saturate your senses. Bursting with positive vibes the main break proves impactful, spanning just under a minute in length, advancing the narrative with ethereal phrases and emotive chord changes, before eventually melting down into a classy drop and driving finale.

The second selection ‘Unstable’ sits in a similar sonic space but comes off a touch more energetic. It’s tight beats, rapid rhythmic core and warm, rolling low end bring big momentum early. A wave of detailed percussion and intricate electronics create a gorgeous narrative, as a more distinct melodic theme fades to prominence. It’s this wonky arp and timely overlays which ultimately blanket the track leading into the break. Tasteful modulation adds just the right amount of quirkiness to the main theme as a rush of beats and drums summons the bassline for a smooth yet powerful re-entry.

Rounding out the release are the sleek yet powerful vibes of the title piece ‘Traveller’. The tempo and drive shift seem to shift up one more gear here with a full, rolling groove and spastic arps. A short break brings a wave of cosmic dust, eventually revealing a tranquil yet catchy line which flows nicely into the tracks short but memorable centrepiece. There’s some sizable drama here, perhaps the most impactful on the EP in fact, as an effervescent sizzle ensues, bringing moments of tension and euphoria before perfectly shifting energy into an heavenly finale. It rounds out a sensational EP from Lucas who makes his first original project for Soundteller a memorable one. Expect to be hearing these a lot in the coming months. Highly recommended.

Modern Agenda is thrilled to have Lucas Rossi back with this own complete EP on Modern Agenda. Parables, Lucas’ original tune was picked up immediately and played by our friend and mentor, Hernan Cattaneo as soon as we signed it. From there, Hernan went on to play the Funkstate remix as well at Ministry of Sound. The whole EP is a must-have for all Progressive lovers. 

True to proper progressive house form, Lucas delivers an incredible original. A nice round sound with effective mids throughout, keeping listeners teased. Dreamy vocal licks play amongst the synth work, all coming together in beautiful melodies, still with a bit of edge. 

A deep and groovy version of the original, Dark Soul Project and Gustavo Calaf bring us their remix and join us on Modern Agenda with this, their first release with us. The synth work on this one is more intense and insistent, and the pressure rises and falls, just right.

The dreamiest of the three, Funkstate’s remix of Parables is sheer gold. Reminiscent of all things delightful and in flux, this remix has flow, melody and unbeatable optimism. The bass is rolling but stays light throughout. The right recipe for lift-off!

'With a growing portfolio to his name, Imran Khan returns to Proton Music. "Sunsweat" sees three sparkling original tracks continue his story with remixes from MUUI and LADS.

Originally, debuting on Particles in October 2017, a remix of LADS saw Imran Khan open his Proton Music account a year later while the "Organik" EP in August 2019 saw a spellbinding original track combine with remixes from Barry Jamieson and Silinder. Part of a triptych of original tracks, "Sunsweat" is characterised by a strong rhythmic groove and rich bassline. Building effortlessly, smooth pads and steam-powered effects add texture and depth, while a muted arpeggio meanders into a beatless breakdown to combine with an emotive lead. Rhythm and bass combine once more in the third movement as all elements create a glorious whole. "Transference" continues the strong rhythmic framework of its partner track and an intelligent bassline phrase adds depth and atmosphere. Rapid-fire percussive hats add dynamism while a wonderfully evocative piano phrase lights up the breakdown with class and maturity. Darker in tone, "Forbidden" completes a trio of original works as a pounding beat and atmospheric pad swells give off an eerie air. Shaker led percussion provides hypnotic power and percussive hits pan across the left-right spectrum with ease alongside a chorus of dramatic effects.

Patrick Carrera has long been a leading figure in the underground dance scene. Under his MUUI moniker, the Australian born artist has been a regular across a host of flagship imprints that include microCastle, Sudbeat and Crossfrontier Audio. Moreover, his Here Now imprint has witnessed over a century of solo production credits including October 2019's "The Human Use of Human Beings". Making his Proton Music debut remixing Kobana in late 2014, MUUI now returns with a shimmering remix of "Sunsweat". Full of the melodic atmospheric poise of the original, MUUI's immaculate production techniques have added layers of texture and depth. Additional melodic flourishes add intrigue while white-noise effects swim enticingly across the soundstage. A chunky rhythmic groove sits perfectly against the melodic elements adding dancefloor prowess to a majestic offering that sees MUUI at the peak of his powers.

Impressive artists in their own rights, their combined forces under the LADS soubriquet saw the German and South African axis create a three-track gem in September 2017's "Miss Jean". The twin-track "Hagel" followed in May 2018 with typical fanfare before the duo returned to remix James Warren in early 2019. Now, reworking Imran Khan, the LADS interpretation of "Transference" takes the track on a gloriously crafted journey that makes full use of Khan's beautiful piano phrases. Adding layers of sound through pads and hypnotically plucked backdrop, a sublime new arpeggiated sequence hits the heights in the third movement to mesmerising effect. A strong rhythmic framework adds dancefloor character in abundance as a rolling percussive groove illustrates skill and technique. The result is a track of rare beauty.'

"Paul Angelo and Don Argento return to Tash’s Movement Recordings with a new EP entitled ‘Dear Cave’. Hailing from Cyprus, the much loved duo have become a core part of the Greek imprint since making their debut in 2017 with a contribution to the label’s ‘Technical Progress’ Vol. 7 collection. Paul and Don have since gone on to appear an additional four times while also finding a home on Beat Boutique, Dopamine Music, Sound Avenue and Soundteller Records. Now following a stunning remix of Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's 'Rumors' the duo lands back on Movement with a three track artist showcase.

Beginning with the title track 'Dear Cave’ Paul and Don continue to explore the dark progressive minded ethos which has made them such in demand artists. Energetic and fluid, punchy beats and perfectly contoured bass unite for a robust low end. Dramatic pulses and piercing stabs add mightily to the rhythmic core as layers of percussion build momentum with each successive loop. Enticing yet mysterious, ghostly atmospheres take the narrative into a tense break, melting down to an arcane rumble before a tasteful build cues a powerful drop.

'Absence' follows suit with a more minimalistic yet equally mystical approach. Acidic rhythms carry the rolling groove while haunting atmopheres sweep across the stereo field. Once again drama and tension are at a premium here, as a timely break and tasteful modulation resets the groove for a chugging finale.

The third and final selection 'Day Walker' finds the duo lightening the mood just a touch to round out the release. It’s meaty kick and rolling underbelly provide a perfect balance of warmth and drive. Playful arps layer the commanding groove as astral effects and icy overlays steal the air. The narrative shifts with a second act of broken beats, transferring energy into a short break before a rush of noise sparks a smooth and reflective final act. It caps off a welcome return to Movement Recordings for Paul and Don, a production duo who continue to operate at their creative peak."

Imran Khan - Forbidden (Original Mix)

Gux Jimenez returns to Deersky’s Soundteller Records for his debut EP entitled ‘Adair’. Hailing from Cartagena, the Colombian artist first appeared on the Polish imprint in October with a contribution to the label’s ‘ADE Sampler’. Also laying claim to releases on Balkan Connection, Clubsonica Records, Droid9, Juicebox Music and Strangers Beats, Gux’s emotive creations have also found favour with some of the world’s most highly regarded DJs, such as Above and Beyond and Armin Van Buuren. Now landing back on Soundteller, Gux presents a new three track artist showcase.

The title selection kicks off the proceedings with a big, warm and classically styled progressive mood. Rolling grooves, catchy arps and wispy atmospheres surround the percussive framework before an emotive break ultimately steals the show. A touch trance-like, it’s effervescent sounds and phasing vocals make for a gorgeous moment, before the groove drops in and elevates the track once again.

The second selection ‘Dairsu’ is not only nicely titled but continues the ethos of the EP perfectly. Its warm, punchy beats and robust groove command a big presence at the outset, before tranquil themes and radiant synths quickly take you into hypnotic territory. Rising modulation works perfectly during a trippy break, adding just enough tension to offset the chord changes for moments of drama as the beats drop for an exhilarating finale.

‘Sudair’ rounds the release out and finds Gux crafting a percussive groover. Built around a chugging foundation it’s a quirky motif which eventually grabs a hold of you. Odd yet modern, it blends what is essentially a nostalgic style groove with contemporary elements. The main break furthers the intrigue through timely effects and a secondary theme which not only provides a smooth transition into the final act but makes for a very groovy conclusion to the release. Three fresh and inspired cuts from Gux who continues to enjoy his best year to date. Highly recommended.

Gux Jimenez - Adair [Soundteller Records]

Fast rising Pablo German returns to Deersky’s Soundteller Records with his debut single alongside remixes from Golan Zocher and Imran Khan. The Argentinean artist first appeared on the Polish imprint in August of 2015 with a contribution to the label’s popular ‘Summer Sampler’ series. The Neuquen resident continues to find a place in the sets of Hernan Catteneo, while having his music showcased on Balkan Connection, Movement Recordings and MNL. Now making a long overdue return to Soundteller, Pablo presents his latest studio creation ‘Reborn’.

Pablo is an artist who seems to improve with each outing. His output is not excessively high and you get the feeling he works hard to prefect his craft between each project. Such is the case with ‘Reborn’ which comes in with a several memorable moments. With a playful bounce, it’s not only smooth and energetic but full of gorgeous sonic details. Meandering melodies and haunting overlays make up the primary narrative, while bands of effects and smooth chord changes bring emotive moments at the most opportune of times.

The first remix finds Golan Zocher returning to the label following a remix of Federico Monachesi’s This Is Not Happening’ from September of 2017. The Colombian born, Israel based artist has had another great year highlighted by releases on Clubsonica Records, Or Two Strangers, Movement Recordings, Plattenbank and Strange Town Recordings. Now returning to Soundteller in just over two years Golan provides a hypnotic rendition of ‘Reborn’. The meditative qualities of the original translate really well here and Golan adds a sleeker more refined approach overall. It’s one of those tracks which creeps up on you somewhat unexpectedly. A testament to it’s fluid nature perhaps and perfectly sets up a heavily layered breakdown to absolutely get lost in. Gorgeous harmonic textures and a hazy disposition make it a magical stretch that leads to a glowing finale.

The release concludes with Irman Khan making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Reborn’. The UK based artist has found a home on some of progressive music’s longest running imprints, including Balkan Connection, Proton Music, Particles and Stellar Fountain. Now fresh off an EP for Proton, Imran makes his much anticipated Soundteller debut with a groovy take on ‘Reborn’. This is a bit more of a departure from the original with a greater emphasis on rhythm and groove. Chunky slabs of bass, vibrant percussion and a bright tonal theme highlight the buoyant journey, while a well timed break does just enough to get a rise out of your dance floor. Powerful stuff from Irman which caps off another excellent release from Soundteller who appear to be closing the year out on a strong note. Highly recommended.

The next 12 incher on Wrong Era is made by Marching Machines, a duo made of two Belgian powerhouses: Dimitri Andreas and Spacid. Their love for electronic machine manipulation and their musical history that spans over 2 decades, built an excellent foundation for this brand new project. “Lonesome” is a slow burning dark electro track with howling and gloomy synths that flow into acidic tendencies. “Desolat” continues on the emotional path of the previous track, embracing solitude on a broken rhythm, ending up in arpeggiating classic and cosmic italo track. In succession of that, there’s “Driven” which moves up to dancefloor dynamics by using harder and raw sounds, combined with an analogue pulsewave sound generator and building into a release of energy with wavy synths and smashing snares. The final track is a remix of “Lonesome” by one of Wrong Era’s label bosses Fabrizio Mamarella. While the original idea is still intact, the remix is a definite bigger and faster version, implying a stark contrast that still remains powerful, perfectly made for the dancefloor.
