About Steven Rushingwind
As a boy growing up in the small town of Pomona, just outside of Los Angeles, Steven Rushingwind longed to play music, but his family could not afford musical instruments nor lessons. The recorder he played at school was his only option. It wasn’t until 2004 when he happened upon the Native Flute at a small-town art fair that his childhood dream was truly fulfilled. With the flute in his hands and songs in his heart, Rushingwind walked into the world of music. He is now an innovative Native Flute player whose music fits into a wide range of genres including Native American, World Beat, and Native Fusion. His passion for taking the Native Flute into uncharted territory inspired the tracks on his latest release, “Rushingwind: Keeper of Secrets,” on which the song Rushingwind can be found. 

Rushingwind is the son of a Native American Opata and Cahuilla Father and a mother from Chihuahua Mexico. He was given the name Rushingwind by his father when he was two years old because he talked too much. Through the years the name has morphed to symbolize many of Steven’s life experiences. Today, as a Native Flute player, Steven draws his breath from the wind and sends it rushing through his flute. His heart’s desire is to spread healing and peace with the music of Rushingwind.
