"Friend of the show Ian Hall will be putting together a guest mix for us to play. Ean alongside partner in crime Twonko and residents Smiddy, Galaxian, Jan and Peacock are responsible for one of Glasgow's newest and most respected club nights. Void.

Since Void's initial inception at the beginning of this year, throughout it's short period of time they have consistently strived to bring to Glasgow some of the finest, most progressive dj’s and producers from the all over the world from Detroit techno and electro (D.I.E's very own DJ Maaco) to squelching acid house (Perseus Traxx) to deep, soul searching minimalism from Poland (Echoplex) as well as providing a platform for some of the most proficient local acts to show off their skills from Thunder Disco Club to Konx-Om-Pax to members of the All Caps crew.

Void's sound palette broadens far beyond those horizons as they encompass all of the great facets of music from Hip-Hop to Italo-Disco to Coldwave to Funk and further afield. It doesn't cater toward a specific genre, it is a celebration of music.

Fascinatingly almost each show has had a theme attached to it. From February's fantastically titled "Transmission From The Outer Atmosphere" (the poster has what appears to be spacemen floating aimlessly in space as they approach the sun) to March's "Set The Controls For The Event Horizon" (the poster gives you the impression that you are peering through an hexagonal window of a star ship as it enters warp speed). Being a big fan of science-fiction, the development of ideas/concepts/theories, the enhancement of technology and looking toward the future, I feel as if Void are wanting to combine both energy and matter so that they can transport us to the end of the cosmos where nebulas and clusters of galaxies limitlessly expand beyond your line of sight, whilst our minds meld and melt into the seeping gateways of time and space."

This mix is basically a view into the nearest future of the label Kontra-Musik. New or unreleased Kontra-tracks are blended with some older and to me special rough and minimal techno tracks. Through is all I have tried to select music that is unique, engaging and special in some way.
The mix has been recorded using two Technics 1210, twp cd-players and my very old, hardly working analogue Vestax pmc-mixer. Some vinyls used are very old and sounds like shit. But as we all know by now, funk must remain impure. Before publishing good old Andreas Tilliander did some small mastering work to spice up the sound a bit. He is also the man behind the TM404 tracks in the beginning. TM404 uses a multiple set up of the the classic Roland machines TB-303 and TB 606 to create a mesmerizing acidic techno-drone. TM404 will release a full lenght album on Kontra-Musik in January. Hope you enjoy the mix!

Golden Teacher started life as a studio collaboration between Glasgow's noise punk trio, Ultimate Thrush and Glasgow's all analogue house duo, Silk Cut. The results of their collaboration turned the ears of all who heard them, not least Twitch who after one listen asked if he could release the project on Optimo Music label.

Recorded live, direct to tape at Glasgow's legendary Green Door studios with minimal overdubbing and editing, the tracks feature various associates of the band contributing vocals and additional percussion. It's a little hard to describe Golden Teacher's sound (always a good thing in our book) but imagine Arthur Russell's Dinosaur L jamming with Bobby O, K Alexi Shelby, Liaisions Dangereuses, Imagination, some voodoo drummers and Sly & Robbie. It is in our opinion one of the most original and wildest records to come out of anywhere in 2012. We like to call it hypno-psych voodoo groove.

The resulting 5 track 12" EP comes in a beautiful hand screen printed sleeve constructed by the band and will be released in this format as a limited edition of 250 copies. Any further pressings will be in a generic Optimo Music sleeve.

Golden Teacher made their live debut at an Optimo night in Glasgow in early October. In future they will be playing select live shows at times and places of their choosing. If you are looking for slick, smooth, generic computer made music, this release probably isn't for you, Sugar.

To celebrate the release of Legowelt's latest album "The Paranormal Soul" today, we thought it appropriate to share part two of our Astro Disco archive with one of Legowelt's classic early live sets at Tulliklubi, 23.2.2001. From over a decade old now, when happiness was still really common and the streets of The Hague city were paved with the gold plated sounds of Electro-Italo-Trance. Pimped and shifted to perfection from it's original glory to fit the modern Urban Hi-fi environment of laptop speakers and earplugs!

Following the release of his critically acclaimed album, Crossed Paths, Shifted’s next release on Mote-Evolver is the incendiary Razors EP.
The EP opens with title track ‘Razors’ a six minute odyssey. Sounds are layered one on top of another and create a strictly cyclical structure. Shaking, rattling sounds helicopter overhead, syncopated noise unfurls in the mid-ground and underneath hypnotic beats are laid down relentlessly. It’s a dizzying combination.
Following on from this disorientation ‘Over’ ratchets up the BPM and rules it with an iron fist. This is merciless techno that’s full of intelligent details. Out of nowhere jangling blips and bleeps collide with feral bass. Shifted is no stranger to creating dance floor optimised cuts and ‘Over’ is the sound of a producer with a very finely honed craft.
The flip side begins with ‘Bloodless’ a title that suggests cold hearted, zestless deeds and a track that is ironically anything but bloodless. Rendered in twisted beats and synthesised noise there’s a cautionary tale to be heard, a warning about shiny surfaces that conceal deadening agendas.
The EP closes with the unsettlingly ‘Trouble’. It’s just as likely to have you listening reclined, with your eyes closed, as it is to leave you slightly paranoid looking over your shoulder. The palette is stripped back giving rise to psychologically charged atmospherica. ‘Trouble’ leaves you with far more questions than it answers.
Across the ‘Razors EP’ Shifted displays the range and diversity of his productions with refined electronic experiments next to broken beats and strange atmospherica aside lethal dance cuts.
