CLR Podcast 336 I Adiel

Tresor (German for safe or vault) is an underground techno nightclub in Berlin and a record label.

History:

The club was founded in March 1991 in the vaults of the former department store Wertheim at Leipziger Strasse 126-128 in Mitte, the central part of East Berlin, next to the Potsdamer Platz. The history of the club goes back to 1988 when the electronic music label Interfisch opened the Ufo Club in Berlin. Ufo was the original centre of Berlin house and techno, but due to financial problems that club closed in 1990.
After Ufo closed, Interfisch's head, Dimitri Hegemann, and some investors in the club found the new space in East Berlin. This was advantageous timing, as it was only a few months before Germany unified. The vaults under the Wertheim department store proved to be the perfect location for a club, and Tresor quickly became the place to be in Berlin. Tresor continued to be a popular club, having expanded and reconstructed continuously several times to include an outdoor garden area, and a second "Globus" floor. The Tresor floor in the basement was reserved specifically for hard techno, industrial and acid music, while Globus was featured mainly more mellow house sound. The record label Tresor Records was founded soon after the club first opened, in October 1991. Featured artists on the label include Jeff Mills, Blake Baxter, Juan Atkins, Robert Hood, Drexciya, Stewart Walker, Joey Beltram, DJ Surgeon, Pacou, Cristian Vogel and many others.
In 2004 the documentary "Tresor Berlin: The Vault & the Electronic Frontier" was released. Directed by Mike Andrawis, it features interviews with Hegemann, Carola Stoiber, and DJs & artists associated with the club & label. The film covers the period from Hegemann's involvement with the Fishladen and UFO clubs in Berlin-Kreuzberg to the final months prior to Tresor's closure.
Tresor closed on 16 April 2005, after several years' prolonged short-term rent. The city sold the land to an investor group to build offices on the Leipziger Straße location. It was open for each night of April 2005, with the final event starting the Saturday night with queues stretching all the way down the road, and still going Monday morning.
Tresor reopened on 24 May 2007 in the decommissioned southern tract of the combined heat and power plant Heizkraftwerk Berlin-Mitte in Köpenicker Straße. 
Since November 2019 the club has a subsidiary in the city of Dortmund called Tresor.West. 
In September 2022, Tresor published a photobook, Tresor: True Stories, to document the past 30 years of its history.

San Francisco raised, Berlin-based artist Chloe Lula is a resident DJ and releasing artist at Tresor. She's played at Berghain, Boiler Room, Movement Detroit, and countless clubs, festivals and parties across Asia, Europe, and, North and South America, becoming known for sets that dig deep into the niche recesses of rolling psychedelic techno. She has released on Tresor Records, Blueprint, and Falling Ethics, and will release an LP on MORD in November 2025. 

In addition to her career as a DJ and producer, Chloe is a classically trained cellist, and uses her instrument to record deconstructed tones and timbres that form the textural and atmospheric character of her releases for the dance floor. She is also a composer and released her debut instrumental full-length on James Ginzburg’s Subtext label late last year.

It must have been 8 years since I threw a disco mix online. 
In all modesty I can say that through my Radius label among other things, I'm one of the Belgian pioneers who brought back Italo from the past.  I gained a lot of international recognition and travelled all over Europe, but that also meant I had to recover for quite some time from an italo overdose. Anyway, so here's a new mix, recorded live at Pingwing, the best and most sexy italo party's in Belgium.  The recording is the first hour of a 3-hour set. I was building it up slowly to a climax, but only to drop it when the steam started dripping from the ceiling.  But I'll withhold the last part from you. That's only meant for the people who were there and experienced it.  So, this mix is a perfect warm-up for the next Pingwing (https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=217062831694926) edition...

Today he is resident at Kozzmozz, Belgium’s longest running techno party.  And even though he’s part of this legendary celebration for ages, his Retro Acid Residency is in the running even longer.
Spacid is promoting promoting electronical music since the early 90’s but never ties down to one particular style. He thinks outside the box and takes you to a variety of moods.  He understands how to adapt a range of atmospheres depending on the venue, people and mood. Both his reverence for the past and his quest for innovation transpire in his work as a dj. His thirst for renewal is illuminated by his passion for music, which keeps him sharp. 
Together with Dimitri Andreas, he's Marching Machines. As producers, they’re exploring the boundaries of Electro, House, Dark disco, Italo and EBM.  Their love for electronical machine manipulation is key and has its output on labels like Correspondant, Rotten City records, Opilec-music, Why people dance, Nein and Wrong Era records.            
               
Next to his love for music, Spacid loves green beans and koala bears. He's feeling judge-y when he finds the time to dust off his vinyl stock and he is an avid collector of in-flight sick bags. In 2014, he won the prestigious Tuvaluan Lacemaking championship in and is also an amateur surgeon.
