Phase Fatale is the techno project of Berlin-based DJ and producer Hayden Payne from New York. Born out of his various post-punk and cold wave bands in the past, Phase Fatale is an artistic endeavour that serves as an outlet for his own interpretation of the darker, harder and industrial-leaning techno. The project aims to demolish the border between music and noise to create a new individual vision of techno – the sound of future war, whether it’s captured on vinyl or an extract of the digital static.
Phase Fatale uses exclusively hardware to achieve his distinguishable sound for his live sets while his DJ sets feature a unique blend of techno laced with EBM and industrial. His 2014 debut EP Skyscraper on Italian label Avant! Records moves between noise-ridden soundscapes and minimal industrial techno rhythms, capturing the spirits of both EBM classics and modern contemporaries. His most anticipated forthcoming 2015 releases include EPs on Berlin-based [Aufnahme + Wiedergabe] followed by Jealous God. Phase Fatale has played alongside acts such as Clock DVA and Cold Cave around the world from Los Angeles to Moscow.

Dekmantel is thrilled to announce an exciting new project by the impeccable Robert Hood. Over the course of three EPs and one album, the Detroit legend presents Paradygm Shift. The first EP is scheduled for the 22th of February. Hood: ‘‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’’

Hood is thrilled about his new adventure on the Dekmantel label: ‘‘I’m glad to partner up with them on this project. I have a very good relationship with Dekmantel. I remember the first time I met them, how laidback these guys were. I performed in this illegal bunker, a dj-set, and the atmosphere was just amazing, awesome and open-minded. It seems like a natural progression to collaborate on this project now. We share a mutual responsibility not to let fall things just in place, but to make things happen. Dekmantel is about making things happen, and so like minds think alike.’’    

Inspiration for Paradygm Shift came from a shift in Hood’s own focus. ‘‘I have been busy with my Floorplan alias and reintroducing Monobox over the years, but at the same time I felt it necessary to reiterate Robert Hood as an electronic music artist who is bringing minimalism back in the forefront, and not to get lost in the melody. I want to get back to the simple repetitive programming that I’m known for, and to me it was returning to that, but shifting the listeners’ focus and not staying on this plane like we are used to.” 

This approach clearly manifests on Paradygm Shift Volume 1, the first EP that kicks of the series with great anticipation. Two tracks that have ‘Rob Hood’ written all over it: minimalistic beasts, bursting from energy and meticulously crafted by the hand of a master producer. ‘Form’ slowly but surely creeps upon you, a slow starter, but in the end the techno funk-finesse will roar like a Detroit car engine. ‘Lockers’ follows a slightly more melodic path, keeping the momentum by delivering body shaking, pulsating techno, deep and timeless just the way we like it.

Acclaimed techno, dub and atmospheric craftsmen Voices From the Lake, aka Italians Donato Dozzy and Neel, are starting their own new label, Spazio Disponible. 

The label will start with a release from Voices From The Lake in March 2016, then a solo EP from Dozzy in May, but will be about much more than just putting out 12"s: it is a conceptual idea that will see friends of the duo release music, but will also be accompanied by a quarterly party at Goa in Rome. The first one will be March 18th where Donato and Giuseppe will play all night long with a close musical friend. 

More than that, though, the artists playing will be in the studio the whole week running up to the night, jamming and preparing music for the night and potentially producing a record that will later be put out on the label. The setup at Goa will be a hybrid of machines, live gear and DJ equipment that will allow for fluid transitions between each as the party unfolds. Essentially each event will be one big jam that features artists joining in and dipping out at will. Line-ups won't be announced for any of the nights, with the whole thing paying heed of the title, Spazio Disponibile. 

As for the first release, it features three tracks of absorbing and hypnotic deep techno that sucks you deep down into an organic world of super smooth sound. Subtly filled in with pixel thin synths, trance inducing bleeps or spaced out pads, it offers a fine taster of what to expect from Spazio Disponibile both on record and in the club.

"It's very direct, danceable club music, anchored stylistically between Electro, Techno and Industrial/NewWave, strongly influenced by '80s acts Liaisons Dangereuses, CH BB, sporadically, DAF and the Consumed /Concept period of Richie Hawtin." is how Hanno Leichtmann describes his new project Gesetz Der Oktaven. "The name 'Gesetz Der Oktaven' was chosen because I wanted something very German sounding, as we say 'sperrig', something technical, scientific. All the track titles are very old skool or obsolete studio/audio terms. "I wanted a completely new set-up, so I got a large Soundtracs desk from the 80s with 16 channels and, crucially 6 Aux Sends for effects." He continues, "The large number of aux sends was essential for the project. I used a drum machine, a MiniMoog sequenced by a TB 303, a vintage Drum Synth and six 6 effect combinations for the delay / reverb tracks. All very old-skool and in real time with no plugins. It took months of trial and error but the result is a very beautiful high-quality vintage studio sound."

Gesetz Der Oktaven - Verpolung - Third Ear Recordings

An intense introspection of sound deconstructionism and spacial dissonance presented in this 4 track (plus 2 lock grooves) EP entitled Nonharmonic Beautifault. 

The A Side is introduced with the track 'Blank Hand', a sludge fuelled walk into dusty audio bites and asthmatic rhythms, topped with screaming hoovers and TV static that at once builds up, collapses into beautiful cacophony. Leading us into the 'Body Molecule' - A rushing pad and sparkling percussion pinned to a rolling kick pattern that drives this track toward a central point of attacking synths and swarming soundscape. The run out locked groove features a deep distorted kick that loops into infinity. 

The other side starts with 'Angular Beautifault'. Acidic Rhythms and Buzz Saw Synths all washed together into a shimmering reverberated cavern that explodes with high powered clap patterns and bubbling 303 lines. Following this we have 'The Burin' - an uncompromising, high paced assault of power kicks and slanted percussion. Incessantly driving and unyielding towards the final lock groove of distorted sub loop. 

Nonharmonic Beautifault represents a shift in Positive Centre's work that aims beyond the delicate ambience into harder and darker sound territories. 

Nonharmonic Beautifault EP will be released on 12" vinyl and digital on February 19.

DESCRIPTION

Big techno track from Skatebård just in time for summer + a exclusive 12" mix by The Knights Of Jumungus (Mungolian Jet Set)

This time Untz Untz have got the closely associated Skatebård to deliver nothing less than a catchy techno track. Although the track consists only of a bassline, some percussion and some 909, it still works like a charm on the dance floor and you will even find yourself humming along to it. And how many techno tracks can you say that about? 'Confirmation Bias' is a marathon clocking in at almost 14 minutes. Not a minute too long.

On the B side we have a extensive rework of 'Reindeer Salsa' from The Knights Of Jumungus. You might know them better as Mungolian Jet Set, but here they are operating in their capacity as Knights from planet Mung. They are taking us deep into the jungle and doesn't let us out again until the early morning with their mix. Jungle as in the forest kind, not the genre. This is seriously experimental stuff and a truly unique rework.
