Our No. 222 today comes from an artist who has been accompanying me musically more or less continuously for about 2 years. To overhear him is basically pretty really hard. Not only because of his high output and commitment, but especially because of the high quality that can be found in all his mixes. So is the case with ours.

We are talking about kośa who also runs the well-known label Kosa which preferably stands for experimental downtempo that can be classified somewhere between world music and slow deep house. As a solo artist Tarun is very successful on the road. Among other things, he has played at the well-known Berlin club Kater Blau several times.

His recorded mix begins like an ode to the Bronx of the 80s when hip hop played with oriental music elements. As the tape progresses, it becomes deeper and more driving, without losing its slow character. In the process, he reveals a wide range of subgenres...Towards the end, Tarun returns to the starting point, skillfully closing the circle. In his set, he provides equal amounts of release and tension. A perfect formula for an easy-going, danceable afterhour. Fasten your seatbelts...

Unsere Nr. 222 kommt heute von einem Künstler, der mich seit ungefähr 2 Jahren mehr oder weniger ununterbrochen musikalisch begleitet. Ihn zu überhören ist im Grund ziemlich wirklich schwer. Nicht nur auf Grund seines hohen Outputs und Engagement, sondern vor allem wegen der hohen Qualität, die sich in all seinen Mixen wiederfindet. So auch bei unserem. 

Die Rede ist von kośa der zudem das bekannte Label Kosa betreibt welches vorzugsweise für experimentellen Downtempo steht, der sich irgendwo zwischen Worldmusic und slowen Deep House einordnen lässt. Als Solokünstler ist Tarun überaus erfolgreich unterwegs. So bespielete er unter anderem den bekannten Berliner Club Kater Blau bereits mehrere Male.

Sein eingespielter Mix beginnt wie eine Ode an die Bronx der 80er als der Hip Hop mit orientalischen Musikelementen spielte. Im weiteren Verlauf wird das Tape immer deeper und treibender, ohne seinen slowen Charakter zur verlieren. Dabei offenbart er eine große Bandbreite von Untergenren…Gegen Ende kehrt Tarun wieder zum  Ausgangspunkt zurück und schließt somit gekonnt den Kreis. About this journey :
Ok, so I really didn't know where to start since I haven't recorded something in a looooonnggg time. However, when I was listening to Planet Caravan's Remix of my track Eleven Will Dust Lucas, I figured that I should just hit the record button and see where my mood was going to take me.
I remember I really loved the flow I was in from the moment I hit the record button, but wasn't sure afterwards if it was any good since there's no feedback from a crowd or anything. So I decided to take a listen to the mixtape when I was out on one of my regular Sunday strolls and I think it came out great. This one should really be played loud. It's a bit obscure, hence the name, but really fitting for a dancefloor. So hope you'll enjoy this mixtape just as much as I did when listening back to it.

For the third time this year, Hekske (the little witch) flew eastwards, all the way to the Dnipro river. It was early December and the landscape looked very different from the lush green meadows she saw last spring or the flowery meadows she saw last summer. Now everything was cold and muddy, but the river looked as mighty as ever and Hekske flew all the way down to estuary, where the Dnipro first merged with another mighty river (the Southern Bug) after which it became so wide that it was impossible to see where the river ended and the sea started. At that moment, she saw a young witch waving on the left bank of the river. Hekske’s heart skipped a beat when she recognized Mriya, the 13-year old witch whom she had met twice earlier this year. After a long and tender welcome hug, the 2 witches walked in northwestern direction. Despite the winter cold, the landscape of steppes and marshlands was absolutely stunning, and the girls were in the pleasant company of white herons and pelicans. Mriya explained that this peninsula is called the Kinburn Spit (Кінбурнська коса), and that a lot of migrant birds spend the winter here. The two witches continued to walk along the shore, while the vegetation got sparser and the cold wind blew straight in their face. Then suddenly they saw a tipi in the distance. This was a big surprise as one would expect such conical tent in the great plains of North America and not on the shores of the Black Sea. The girls got curious and entered the tipi, which was completely empty apart from a beautiful white rug with red, blue and yellow patterns.  On the rug they found 2 mysterious ceremonial pipes and some eagle feathers. The girls sensed that the pipes and feathers were destined for them so they took these items and continued their journey in northwestern direction. Meanwhile the weather had changed for the worse, with dark clouds coming closer and the wind now blowing at gale force. The girls kept on walking on this sandy peninsula which eventually became so narrow they could see the water on their left and right sides. The witches had to battle against the head wind and could barely put one foot ahead of the other. The last 300 yards took nearly one hour. By then the sandspit was only a couple of meters wide and finally they reached the end of the peninsula, the very place where the mighty Dnipro and Bug rivers merged with the Black Sea. Then – without warning - it became wind still. Hekske and Mriya looked to the west when they saw something pop out of the water. It appeared to be the head of stern-looking young woman with long black hair, and she slowly waded out of the water. She was wearing body armor and carrying a sword. This was a warrior princess and judging from the chinks in her armor, she had seen some fierce fighting. After reaching the beach, the warrior princess looked at Hekske and Mriya, still with an emotionless face but with a tear rolling down her cheek. With slow movements she threw away her sword and removed the armor from her arms, legs and chest. After that she slowly walked towards Hekske and Mriya until they finally touched … engaging in a very long group hug during which the warrior princess started sobbing. After this, she got into a brighter mood and even started smiling when she noticed that Hekske and Mriya were carrying ceremonial pipes. The princess opened a small pouch and showed some dried leaves. The witches filled the ceremonial pipes with the leaves and Hekske lit it up with 2 floating sparks. When the warrior princess touched the pipe with her lips, a ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds and fell straight on the 3 women. None of the girls knew how to smoke a pipe, so they just savored the scent of the burning leaves while enjoying the peace and tranquility of this remote place at the very end of the world…

"Sometimes life just rushes by and you just stand there: „Wait - what about me!“ Then you need to take a break, otherwise you don’t get anything done. So this is what this set is: the story of someone taking a short break in all the busy-ness of the daily grind, starting with much-needed calmness (beginning with a track I coproduced with my partner Konrad Dycke for our project Daeumelin, a long time ago), and then slowly picking up energy and developing into a more lighthearted sound, ending again with something peaceful."

heuer präsentieren wir euch mal wieder einen speziellen »freunde für freunde mix« und wie soll es nach 4 jahren und 4 monaten auch anders sein, als dass er vom @seaside trip käpt’n kommt:

.... genau, er hat die zeitreise gewagt, er hat den gezeiten getrotzt, segel in stürmen verschlissen und nerven auf sandbänken gelassen, nur um uns nach all den jahren immer noch mit seiner musik zu erfreuen. sich noch immer selbst bezeichnend als »kind der ostsee«, unterwegs in vieler städte häfen, ein musikalischer wegbegleiter, schippert er die wellen quer und kreuzt ab und an die heimathä….äh mixserien-gefilde. so macht er am rostocker hafen längsseits fest und hängt seine wimpel und flagge in den heimatlichen ost-west wind. so sitzt er da, der alte bärtige mann, pafft sein pfeifchen und klönt mit jeder und jedem über die zeiten von … und … und weiß sein seemannsgarn zu spinnen. das webt er immer noch wunderbar in klangteppiche, mit welchen wir mal dahin treiben oder abtauchen, ohne je zu versinken. mit seinem mix für uns knüpft er an den ersten teil (the language of the depth bei akasha mexico erschienen) seiner neuen serie »the sunken sea« an und lässt uns 2 stunden an seinen geborgenen geheimnissen der tiefe teilhaben. »the sunken sea pt.2 -  the depth holds the secrets« ist ein weiterer konzept-mix, bei welchem mal wieder auf überraschende wie wundervolle art & weise klar wird: rolandson war, ist und bleibt einer der geschichtenerzähler, welcher keine angst hat unsere wahrnehmungen immer wieder auf’s neue in frage zu stellen und selbige zu erweitern. mit einer ultraleicht anmutenden feinfühligkeit fädeln sich trippige tracks und verborgene klang-juwelen hintereinander auf und verweben sich letztendlich mit ungehörten geräuschen, melodien und liedern zu einem klangteppich, der geheimnisse birgt aber auch frei gibt.
