Kali Malone’s “Organ Dirges 2016 - 2017" is a collection of isorhythmic canons following the tradition of pipe organ requiems found in early modern music. Malone’s purified organ dirges echo embodied recollections of the piercing numbness of those battled encounters when the armours were stripped down, left with nothing other than will power, yet still standing upright as the columns of Sounion. The soothing and perceptive harmonies resonate to a presence that leans elegantly towards a courageous aftermath and a gleaming salutation. While the dirges themselves have minimal melodic and rhythmic variation, they appear in constant cyclical motion, revealing their refracted selves in a coherent yet unpredictable manner; like a rotating wheel where all spokes are perceptible but at any given moment in a different place.

Kali Malone (b. 1994, Colorado) is an American artist living and working in Stockholm, Sweden since 2012. Her solo works implement unique tuning systems in minimalist form for analog and digital synthesis often combined with acoustic instrumentation - such as pipe organ, string and wind instruments, lute and gong. Malone’s 2017 debut LP “Velocity of Sleep” was released on her own label XKatedral following tape releases put out by Ascetic House, Bleak Environment and Total Black. She is active in the groups Sorrowing Christ, Swap Babies, Upper Glossa with Caterina Barbieri. Her sophomore LP “Cast of Mind” is due spring 2018.

In 1968 the young Sydney composer David Ahern studied in Germany with Stockhausen where he met Cornelius Cardew. The next year he travelled onto London attending Cardew’s classes in ‘Experimental Music’ at Morley College and – in a mammoth seven-hour concert at the Roundhouse on 4 May – participated (with Cardew) in performances of La Monte Young’s String Trio and also took part in the realisation of Paragraph 2 of Cardew’s The Great Learning which proved to be the catalyst for the formation of the Scratch Orchestra. These were revolutionary and defining moments in C20th music.

Returning to Sydney in 1970, one of his aims was to set up an electro-acoustic improvisation group - Teletopa was founded in Sydney in late 1970 by Ahern, Peter Evans and Roger Frampton.

Tokyo 1972 - The Triple LP or Double CD release - features two 50min improvisations from a radio session at NHK studios Tokyo. The group was Ahern, Frampton, Evans and Geoffrey Collins and they were completing a 1972 world tour. The group broke up on their return to Sydney. Only a small example of their work has ever been released before. Liner notes are a manifesto by Ahern from a 1971 pamphlet, and a newly penned Potted History of Teletopa by Geoffrey Barnard, who had been a member of the group from September 1971 until July 1972. The tapes have sat in boxes for 42 years - with this release we can hear that Sydney in the early 1970's had a group at the forefront of musical experimentation with a unique take on free improvisation.
This document is not just important for Australian music – it should establish them posthumously as one of the most interesting developments in experimental music anywhere in the world at this time.

2 tones of more or less equal volume move very slowly in pitch towards and away from each other in orbits of glissandi.

The sound waves interact, sometimes eclipsing the other and creating disturbances which we hear, through a drum, as rhythm.

From interstellar space a saxophone joins in (in the tradition).

Binary Star Rythyms With Interstellar Saxophone

Pip is a duo playing improvised and composed pieces of music, consisting of Torstein Lavik Larsen on trumpet and Fredrik Rasten on guitar. 
Long lasting, blending sounds with a basis in chord structures and harmony is an ever returning element in their music. 
Pip's music also emphasizes small variations in tonal colour, often applying just intonation, extended playing techniques and repeating musical patterns.
Sometimes they include electronic sounds, without leaving behind the core sound of guitar and trumpet as a point of departure.

The duo has existed since 2006, and since then explored many different musical approaches. 
A recuring theme of their exploration has been expansions of the duo instrumentarium, including 
electronics, multiple guitars and different electronic and acoustic keyboard instruments.

Pip released their first official release on the Portuguese label Creative Sources in 2016,
and they have toured in countries as Germany, Czech Republic, England and the Scandinavian countries.

The duo has also worked with artists from other disciplines. They collaborated with choreographer and contemporary dancer Marie Bergby Handeland on the piece Lyden av besluttsomhet, jeg tåler den ikke, which were premiered at the CODA festival in Oslo in 2013, and they have also worked together and performed with the Copenhagen-based live visuals duo of Freya Sif Hestnes and My Lambertsen, called Manuals.

Torstein and Fredrik also play together in the band Oker, with drummer Jan Martin Gismervik and bass player Adrian Fiskum Myhr, and in the quartet Volumes with Magda Mayas on prepared piano and Isak Hedtjärn on clarinet.
