Another collaboration with Torbjørn Vagle and Jimmy Rivas.
Torbjørn sent me a demo of his new song and asked if I would be interested in collaborating.
As with our previous collaborations, Torbjørn and myself traded ideas until we had a reasonable draft of the song to send to Jimmy for him to write lyrics and record his vocal.
Thanks very much to Torbjørn for asking me to contribute to this gorgeous song (visit his page to hear how he got the title) and of course to Jimmy for his outstanding vocal and lyrics. Working with these guys is awesome.

“I was unsure about my next song to create and so my wife suggested writing something in the style of The Mamas & The Papas, which I thought was a fantastic idea. A further suggestion by my wife was added; to include the words “Give Love, Get Love”, which was written on my tea bag string (pictured). This was an even better idea and now a fun challenge. With that, this song was written. 

This is a song about giving yourself to life - that we are simply salt floating in the sea; stardust in the universe - to not resist and to embrace every moment. 

I really love the 60’s Woodstock camp fire feel to this song and I enjoyed trying to emulate the sounds/panning of the incredible “California Dreamin’”. I think the electro/synth-pop inspired vocal processing adds a nice modern twist. I hope you enjoy this one”

Past Palms - Stained Glass

Long time ago in the Scottish Highlands. A tribe that lives in a rough and harsh surrounding, strengthened over generations by the unfriendly environment. The borders of the tribes territory are not exactly known. In particular, in the North, the saying goes that vast areas of unoccupied lands will belong to those that first dare to claim it. So a small troup of currageous military men sets foot to the Northern Frontier ...

Composition-wise: The piece explores the change of atmosphere when the same motive is played with different accompaniments. The same theme can be found for instance @ 0:00 ff,  0:23 ff and 1:05 ff. The accompaniment increases in intensity and rhythm for these three instances, ranging from a meditative intro over a – to my ears – tribal dance or chant towards a first  climax of the piece which might make a good soundtrack for a battle in the Scottish Highlands. The track then settles down to the second theme @ 1:33 which again is repeated with much more agitated accompaniment @ 1:55 ff. 

While the track is in general in 4/4, it raises the tension by sometimes breaking the metrum into more unconventional rhythmic structures. This holds in particular for @ 0:46 ff where the metrum changes to a succession of ¾, 4/4, ¾, 6/4, 6/4, 4/4, ¾, 4/4, ¾, ¾, ¾ and then reverts to the original 4/4. Also @ 2:09  there is in insert of a ¾ bar and at the very end @ 2:30, there is a 2/4 break just before the final chord.

The track has been recorded on a Roland FP-90 and mastered in Cubase by adding  reverb, a Stereo enhancer and fiddling a bit with the EQ.

Kirby/Ward droning out at the  Mill Lane warehouse we inhabited for the first half or so of 2023 (thanks Marek!). A surprise (to us too) bit of prog evolves in the middle then yep back to drone. The acoustics of this joint were in a league of their own. This was recorded and filmed with the place empty just before it was sold. A cavern to say the least.   This song began with a request to Josh made by Karin-Maria about contributing an original song as a collaboration for her new jazz album called Jazztastic. After fleshing out a song on the piano, Josh had to get his right-hand man Ken involved to add the drums, because of course he did. After they had worked it out, they sent it back to Karin-Maria, who added the sax solo. She had it professionally mixed and mastered, primarily because the album is now available to stream on all the major platforms. So, please give the whole thing a listen. It has a bunch of collaborators on it, many of whom you will probably recognize. We hope you enjoy this song as much as we enjoyed creating it. A side note, this is Josh's first jazz song that he's ever written

Cooks Needed-Karin-Maria Brunner/ Entheogenic Pysconaught/K2 and the Three

Anther track inspired by Asimov's "Foundation" series. The Mule (a rather unkind epithet for this enigmatic character) is a mutant (aren't we all?). He's also a clown and a megalomaniac. At his core, however, he's incredibly sad and lonely.
My wah peddle isn't functioning, so I used Native Instruments samples for the guitar licks!
