In Hinduism, Kurma (Sanskrit: कूर्म; Kūrma) was the second avatar of Vishnu, succeeding Matsia and preceding Varaha.

The Kurma avatar of Vishnu is usually depicted in painting and sculpture in a mixed human and animal form. The human half, which is the upper half, is represented by the same ornaments and holding the same weapons as in the usual images of Vishnu. Kurma is also depicted zoomorfamente, like a turtle.

Kurma in the Vedic texts is a symbolic cosmogonic myth. It symbolizes the need for fundamental principles and support for any sustained creative activity.
