Stabilizer

This is the first movement of four in From the Bottom of a Well (Från botten av en brunn) based on Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Shore. The the sounds were designed from, and the music was written from a grounded theory analysis of the book. The piece was performed on the 16th of December 2021 by Robert Ek, clarinet; Kevin Kirs Verstege, cello; and Rikard Vilhelm Lindell, eurorack at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Disquiet Junto Project 0578: Rabbit Spirit Ally
The Assignment: Make music for Lunar New Year.

I started with the idea of following the white rabbit and the Disney scene in my mind, where Alice falls down the rabbit hole and things became strange. I took used stems from older tracks, selecting only weird ones, cutting and rebuilding them by hand and with some Puremagnetik and other FX, to what I felt was an acoustic funnel which hopefully sucks you in.

Down The Rabbit Holes [disquiet0578]

It's the half term school holidays in the UK this week, I'm sitting at home with two young kids and I read this email from Naviar for the Haiku challenge as it pops into my inbox.  I love the image this haiku creates. Outside my window at home we have tree branches that are winter bare. I was filming these the other day for another project. 
I had an idea for the music straight away - a 'bare' sort of sound to reflect the image of branches.  I started on this straight away. The kids are happy playing so I progressed and made this in about 2 hours.

Their waiting ballet…

John Hinks, aka FlownBlue, is a prolific and talented composer, and a regular participant in the Haiku challenge. The Assignment: Make a new subgenre.

Step 1: You’re going to make a new subgenre of techno. Think for a moment about what makes techno techno.

Step 2: Choose a word and put it before “techno.” Those two words in combination are your new subgenre.

Step 3: Record a piece of music in the style of the subgenre you came up with in Step 2.

Eight Important Steps When Your Track Is Done:

Step 1: Include “disquiet0582” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your tracks.

Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0582” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation of a project playlist.

Step 3: Upload your tracks. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your tracks.

I love listening to & creating Ambient, Dark Ambient & Experimental electronica (and the occasional beatscape). I have no professional aspirations  - I just really like creating music / manipulating sounds. It's my way of relaxing after a hard day at the office. All my tracks are produced using monitoring headphones (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro) so I recommend that you listen to my music through headphones. My DAW of choice is FL Studio. I also use Reason every now & then. 


To the artists I follow; I do my best to try to listen to as many of your tracks as possible each night (I listen to each track all the way through - you went through the effort to create a track so you deserve to have it heard in full). If I miss a recent upload of yours, please forgive me...
