I listened to this after listening to you on Four Thought.  I think that, as child, being made to hate what you would become by your feminist parents and man hating mother is unfortunately  at the root of your angst. Patriarchy exists but it is not the reason for your problem with masculinity. The feminism you were inculcated into as a a child, just like any ideology, has messed with your identity. A good Jungian psychotherapist would benefit you a lot more than promoting a social justice movement. I wish you well.

In GBA 18 we get better acquainted with Sam.  She talks about having a premature baby, being a young mum, nearly marrying a man she met on holiday in the Dominican Republic when she was 16 and other stories of innocence and experience. 

It's a brave and frank discussion full of hope and warmth as well as sadness and her young baby provides a soundtrack and commentary for this intimate and moving conversation.

In part 1 of this two part GBA special we join my 93 year old dad on a two day trip to some of the places where he grew up. My dad had wanted to take this trip for a while and me and my little sister (technically my half sister) managed to arrange to take him in February 2017. My 12 year old niece is the last member of the team on this roadtrip adventure. In this episode we travel from London to my dad's childhood home in Sea Mills which is now a suburb of Bristol. Day 1 of the journey takes us through time, space, memory, lost branches of the family tree, dementia and old age and the ways places and people change.

Next week in part two of episode 299 of Getting Better Acquainted we travel into Bristol to the Bristol Museum and other places my dad visited as a child.
