OPOLOPO - Voltage Controlled Feelings

...as promised (even if delayed), here is the track that I was going to post a few days ago.  I think I described it as a bit noisier than "Deepest Blues", not as skippily catchy as "Know a Man Who Knows," not nearly as weird as "Zarathruster," and not as personal to me as "European Man."  

This, however, is the moment that you get to here..."Fire Safety Technique."  

...which is a dumb name for a song that, I think it will be obvious when you listen to it, SHOULD have been titled "Stop, Drop, Let It Roll" or "(Stop, Drop) Let It Roll" or "Stop, Drop, & Roll".  But it isn't--it's called "Fire Safety Technique," because sometimes I give more weight to what amuses me rather than what would be good for branding.  

This is a rough around the edges (so much so I feel justified in giving it a "lo-fi" tag) guitar funk with horns, some surprising repurposed EDM synths, and a combination of soulful and funky male and female vocals, with distorted snippets from a kid's fire safety video.  

In other words...it is, as you might have guessed, an Interbay track.  

The fact that it was delayed doesn't mean that this song isn't a good Interbay track--just that I was excited by the thing I'd JUST made and wanted to get those tracks up on SoundCloud as quickly as possible...thinking that these fresh baked songs would be listened by millions and loved by everyone.  

(::cough::)

...let's be honest.  Interbay tracks will be listened to, typically, around 140 people, and, at most, liked by a handful.  (Though, at the moment, I'm slightly disappointed that nobody gave "European Man" a "like"--maybe my old-man tastes are now way too niche, because "European Man" is one of my favorite Interbay tracks so far this year.  If you haven't checked it out--give it a listen...and hopefully you'll be the first person--as I write this--to give it a like!)  

As far as "Fire Safety Technique" goes--it is a really fun and funky track with a Hofner-violin-style bass providing the walking bass.  (Why specifically that bass tone?  I think the idea amused me--see my comments earlier in this description.)  AND, it also offers a good message about what to do if your clothes catch on fire.  

You'd want to Stop, Drop, Let it Roll and, when the fire is out, start following this Interbay page!

Transatlantic duo Sons of the Sun make their BBE debut with warm and soulful hip hop single ‘Underwater Dreaming,’ taken from their forthcoming self-titled album.

A tender, sensual celebration of connection and desire, ‘Underwater Dreaming’ evokes the sounds of contemporary R&B, fused with Southeast London’s signature jazz vibes. Their unique aesthetic stands out- the entire album is recorded with honest, organic musicianship, an homage to the much loved old skool sample sound, reflected back through multi-instrumentation. Sons of the Sun is a collaboration between American singer-songwriter JTronius and British producer Maverick Quest, featuring an inspired selection of luminary guests and musicians. Delivered remotely following a chance meeting on music-tech networking app ‘Brapp’, the ingenious pair sent files back and forth between Texas andSouth East London to create their shared vision for the project. Remarkably, the duo have yet to meet in person.

A respected solo artist knighted by Bootsy Collins as an official ‘funkateer,’ Berklee College graduate JTronius is an extravagant entertainer, songwriter and entrepreneur. Self-dubbed The Guvna of the Galaxy, he brings his swaggy, soulful style to all his endeavours. He has shared stages with LL Cool J, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Pharrell, Busta Rhymes and Damian Marley and is an accomplished actor, appearing in a number of successful Hollywood feature films.

Genre-blending record producer and multi-instrumentalist Maverick Quest is a coveted artist with 20 years of experience in the music industry. He grew up immersed in the aesthetic of hip hop, but in an environment where flipping loops from vinyl was standard, developing his musicianship to create his own sounds was radical, a move that paved the way for his signature sonic. Maverick Quest has previously performed with and produced for Guru, Grandmaster Flash, Ice T, Ibibio Sound Machine, Solo Rosa and Portico Quartet to name but a few and is firmly rooted in the epicentre of the burgeoning South East London jazz movement.
