Another great guestmix was put on the table recently. Someone I didn't recogniced before, but so happy he reached out to me: The Silentist.

This artist is a vinyl collector and DJ from the South West of France, based in Amsterdam since 2017. With a deep love for records that span many genres. And this mix showcases a wide range of music of his very favourite — dub techno.

Some personal words from the artist about this selection: "Spanning over more than three decades of the genre, the set opens with a 1994 classic and closes with a fresh record from 2025, tracing a sonic arc through dub techno's evolution. From the foundational echoes of Basic Channel and Maurizio, through the immersive textures of the 2010s with Prince of Denmark, Wax, and Idealist, to the modern depth of Theef, Hydergine, and Vril — this is a deep dive into the pulse and atmosphere that define the genre.

The Silentist for MLD

@quadrantsoundscape are Tommy Harrison and Wilson Logan from Manchester. Together, they are the minds behind the Dub Explorations Mix Series. They also run a series of live events at the famous Eastern Bloc Records. The Dub Explorations Series itself has well surpassed 130 shows, all at least 3 hours in length which is an insight into the dedication they have for hunting underground Dub Techno and Deeper Detroit Tunes to showcase and promote. They have also increased their output with 2 new mix series'. Firstly, 'The Quadrasphere' where many genres are showcased by some very talented artists, and 'The Frontier', which is an invite only mix show.

Joren is rapidly making waves in the scene with his stellar live performance and a highly anticipated release one Priku’s Atipic back in 2021. Now he lands on Stately Records and is delivering 3 outstanding pieces, with A1 being an analog live take, potential to do some serious damage on the dancefloor on A2, and the title track on the flipside received a beautiful rework by Stately’s own dubtommy. Our Belgian connection runs deep, built on shared moments, mutual admiration, and a steady stream of talent that never seems to dry up. The latest to surface is Ben Kamal: Brussels-based DJ, promoter, and soon-to-be label boss. In recent years, Ben has been a staple in clubs like C12, Fuse, and Funke, as well as festivals like Paradise City and Horst. He’s carved out a sound that’s both precise and personal, equal parts deep, minimal, and melancholic. As a resident of Lola Haro’s Small Steps series and curator of nights at bis.club, he’s been steadily shaping a mood, a narrative, a space. And with the first release on his new label ov guidance about to drop, featuring a.brehme and signall kommt (aka z@p), that space is about to get even more defined.

Listening to the mix Ben made for us feels like watching dusk fold into night in slow motion. The arc is patient, but the details are razor-sharp: fluttering hats, muted basslines, strange shadows between the kick and the silence. There’s movement, but it’s not linear. It loops, it lingers, it pulls you inward. It’s not about big moments, it’s about micro-decisions that add up to something more enduring. Call it dusk-lake energy. Call it perfect for the other side.

Pintai Mix 012: noodle

To me, this mix is every bit as nostalgic as the Radio 1 Essential Mix shows of the 90s, and I've listened to it more times than I can count. Will mixed this in March 1999; while I lay in an extremely spaced-out heap in his student house in Tottenham. Even more impressive is that this was one of those grab & go mixes where he included records we'd just bought. This mix is typical of the evening sessions we'd have before heading out to the likes of Lost, The End and the Velvet Rooms.
