2014 looks set to continue the onslaught. And it starts right here with 'Lock In / Shakedown', a dynamite double header designed purely for total dancefloor obliteration. Get to know:

'Lock In' kicks off with serious intent: a sharp, clipped riff and trembling, emotive pads set the dramatic scene before we're hurled into a thick bass fray. The low end roars and stretches as DC Breaks trademark drum science surges through the mix. And with additional breakbeats peppering the fills with chop-slapping cymbal splashes and chest-pressing double-kicks, an intense dynamic is maintained throughout. Handle with care... This one's dangerous.

'Shakedown' upholds the Bristol/London duo's menacing message as we're instantly sucker-punched with nagging middy notes, subtle bass tears and a pensive build-up. Before we know it, we're surrounded in a swarm of basses, each one soaring and sneering, buzzing and biting, vying for our full focus. As a cool tape-stop effect to introduce us to the breakdown, the rebuild and second drop live up to the track title in every way: this is guaranteed to shake your dancefloor so hard it's pretty much criminal.

DC Breaks - Lock In

Drum & bass stalwarts Black Sun Empire are to follow up a trio of recent EPs from The Upbeats, Neonlight and Pythius with the release of ‘Until The World Ends’ - a five-track, collaborative EP with NZ duo State Of Mind. To be released on January 26th via their genre-defining Blackout imprint, it marks an exciting start to 2015.

Lead track ‘Ego’ immediately sets the tone with growling bass lines and punchy synth-stabs that underpin dark, techy atmospherics and vocal loops.

Second track ‘Until The World Ends’ proves once again both acts’ enduring versatility - kicking off with a bass-heavy dubstep tones complimented by vocal duties from State Of Mind’s fellow New Zealander PNC, before

switching to a manic, intelligently structured groove for the remainder.

‘Bad’ opens with progressive percussion and softly-worked synths that move euphorically to a pounding drum break, whilst fourth track ‘Jack Nicholson’, featuring an imitable sample of the man himself, is a bass-fuelled shockwave of a track. Final track.

‘Moonbox’ closes the EP in true Blackout fashion, with signature frenetic beats and firing drums rounding off proceedings in style.

Black Sun Empire have built a reputation for curating their own brand of dark, neurofunk-inspired drum & bass over the past 12 months and this collaboration with long term accomplices State Of Mind - whom released their latest album ‘Eat The Rich’ via the label earlier this year - feeds into the hype surrounding Blackout as the label looks ahead to 2015.

In the dying light of each day they gathered, the long shadows of the dojo scaffold casting darkness across the solemn faces of the keepers of their art. Each took his turn to tell a part of the story, handed through the generations by their masters. Components of a tale of the overwhelming horror of a past that others preferred to bury in myth. They spoke of a time when the coming of the night spelt death for those in the open blackness, with the pressing undead mass reaching from beyond the grave to extinguish the last embers of life, locked in a desperate struggle to crush the final beacon that sheltered the living. They spoke of he who blocked the crushing sea of extinction in the depths of each night, shielding the fragility of life with the perfection of his brutal and efficient form. The eyes of the living only greeted each new day because of the immortal techniques that had now been passed to them, the new guardians of the beacon, masters of an art now evolved – watching, waiting, perfecting their deadly art… ready for the return of those beyond death.

Following up the immensely successful Karate LP from core Eatbrain artist L 33, comes a deadly second approach to some of the most blinding tracks from the album - reimagined by a collection of apex predators in drum & bass. PROLIX delivers an exhilarating and forward-leaning groove with his take on CLUBLIFE, whilst JOE FORD percussive prowess and intricate and on-point production pushes DROP IT DOWN LOW into dynamic and fresh realms. The freshest name on Eatbrain - SYNERGY deliver their justice to RAZOR BLADE, with its twisted and rough sound whilst NEONLIGHT unravel a paranoia-inducing and edgy take on title track KARATE. They established a temporary hub deep in the catacombs of the urban ultrascape, a sanctuary far from the eyes of the flesh-wrapped bio species of this technologically primitive planet. They were the last few of what was supposed to have been a peaceful incursion, an optimistic greeting between species that now stood as a declaration of violence written in the broken shards of their fallen brothers. As the chaos had blossomed around them and the incident unfurled its catastrophic and unstoppable cycle of causal probabilities and terminal results, they watched as their speaker was torn apart by the masses that pushed in against their number. Its limbs were ripped from its body each in turn, flailing and spilling hydraulic fluid as it twisted, reaching out to choke fragile throats as those merciless hands destroyed the beings they viewed as abominations. They managed to retrieve what was left of the body, separated and broken, but its heart and brain intact. Now in their refuge, with a click the last component slipped into place, its eyes flickered into life and its hand closed tight, its first thought - of death – the need to squeeze the life out of those fragile frightened masses.
