Merging musicians with years of experience, Static Satellites are one of the newest and hottest prospects to come out of the ever growing Scottish music scene.

The bands signature catchy indie pop riffs and deep rich vocals have gained them the accolade of being likened to artists such as The Strokes, The National and Two Door Cinema Club.

Formed in the summer of 2018 the band have been constantly writing and performing at every opportunity they can get. Their debut single ‘Spin’ was released in May 2019 as a fundraiser for the Samaritans charity and was included in Regal Radio’s ‘Independent Hottest 100 of 2019’ in Australia.

In October 2019 they released their second single, fan favourite ‘Waster’, which led to the band being named by Edinburgh Live as one of the top 5 West Lothian bands you need to know about, alongside rising stars Mark Sharpe & The Bicycle Thieves and The Snuts.

During the band’s short history they have played headline shows in multiple venues in Glasgow and have played throughout Scotland supporting Red Rum Club, Luke La Volpe and Voodoo Bandits.

With driving bass lines, melodic guitar licks and pounding drumbeats, Static Satellites are an invigorating new band offering a new breed of alternative noise.

The meaning behind this song is something I've chosen to remain a mystery. Being a music artist in 2021, we’re encouraged to share every little detail about our lives with our audience. While this has opened up many opportunities for artists to have unique and personal interactions with fans - something which we encourage and take full advantage of in Crystal Cities - there are some things that perhaps should be kept to ourselves in order to set boundaries and protect and respect the privacy of other people... In this instance, I want the context of this song to be left up to the listener’s own interpretation.

“Resistance,” the 2nd single from Yo Kinky’s debut EP (out 02/28/21), finds the duo exploring a more delicate yet simultaneously strong and confident mood. With Unish’s spaced-out, rockabilly-tinged guitar bouncing through the song’s driving, hypnotic layers of sound, they paint a sonic landscape that yearns for much-needed intimacy in a time of social distancing and isolation. As Wight’s vocals float above the surface, singing “Love is all we breathe” and “Swing me off my feet,” she transports the listener to places of rich yet strange beauty. “Resistance” alludes to keeping sanity amidst chaos with the warm and hopeful delivery of “Sight got back/I feel different/A flicker in the distance,” and finding contentment from the small things in life: “Everybody’s just around the corner now/Everything I need is just a short walk down the street.” This follow-up is sure to leave listeners with a sense of triumph against all odds.
