Denver McCarthy puts his two cents in with a deliciously, retro sounding track that appeared in the bowels of his debut LP. Rounding out this motley crue is key flagships of Statras various imprints, Statravel and Statra Twelves. Wata aka Wataru Igarashi, a multi-talented composer, guitarist, DJ and recording artist, spent his childhood absorbing the cultural eclecticism of Tokyo, London, and Madrid. At fifteen, he began his music career in Madrid as a punk-guitarist for a skate-rock band called F.O.D., frequently playing at skate championships and live-houses and getting featured in Spanish Skate magazines.

After his return to Tokyo in 1992, he shifted his musical focus to less convention-following free-improvisation and jazz, and formed an experimental instrumental band called Indigo Cage Airlines, with whom he has been performing in and around Tokyo for 15 years. Thus far, they’ve released two albums "Indigo Cage Airlines" and "Occupied <-> Vacant".

From 2003 to 2008, Wata made valuable contributions to SYN Entertainment, a Tokyo-based music production company co-owned by Nick Wood, and Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran. Attaining the role of musical director there, he composed and wrote scores for numerous successful TV commercial campaigns, commissioned by corporations like Toyota and Sony, and released several songs under the SYN label, including “Gente Bonita”, which rose to No.22 on the iTunes dance chart.

Recently, he has been directing his diverse musical energies toward the dance floor. Of late, he’s also been producing some distinctive, groovy techno tracks. Of his creations, says Wata, “When I make a song I want to make sure that the song is trippy enough to take you somewhere.” Clearly, as an early globetrotter himself, he wants to send his listeners on a journey of their own.
The music he produces is made up of a myriad of elements from his diverse musical background. He seamlessly runs the genre gamut, merging andre-shaping earlier influences of punk with more sophisticated free-form jazz and sharpening his chops on more cutting-edge, deep techno groove and electronic beats. He’s served well by inventive sensibilities and a keen understanding of modern technological tools now at the disposal of musicians and composers.

Blurring the line between armchair electronic and indie rock the MoonFace EP is an electro acoustic dream ride that rises and swells with grasping emotion. On just your first listen to the music of James Drabble a/k/a Geche [gesh], you realize that there is something very special emanating from your speakers. One can tell right away that both his approach to making music, and even his passion for making music are sublimely conceptual and authentic. His songs find their soul on so many different levels, soul that is genuinely and equally comprised of his musical and artistic influences, his skills as a musician, and his knowledge in using technology to make music. 

Traditionally trained on the Violin James began to seek out new music at the tender age of twelve. With no real inspirational finds in his small seaside town in East Yorkshire England James began to experiment on his Amiga 500. Recoding his own odd vocals and experimenting with sampling, he uncovered his newest and long since passion of electronic music production. While earning a degree from Anglia University in Cambridge for his studies in audio & music technology, James fell under the influence of artists like FSOL, My Bloody Valentine, Mouse on Mars, Slowdive, Ride, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Fying Saucer Attack, and Third Eye Foundation, tastes that would eventually lead him to the Brooklyn based Statra Recordings label.

James’ first ever commercially available release was the forward thinking remix he did on Charles Webster’s break out single “Ready” featuring Terra Deva, taken from last years well received “Born On the 24th Of July” album. His sure to turn heads mix of Jonathan Axelsson and Astrid Suryanto’s deep house gem “You Give Me Love” is out now on the Statra Twelves imprint, and is yet another stellar production that puts Geche miles ahead of rest. The MoonFace EP is his first step towards an inevitable full length release on Statra Recordings sometime in 2003.

Geche - Resile

Statra Recordings is back again in Deep House form with a spring forward EP by dirty Tuesday dons Sasse & James Flavour. Rumor has it that the guys met back at the beginning of the decade on the tennis courts of Friedrichshain Volkspark in Berlin and challenged each other to numerous sudden death shootout matches, but rather than either throwing a Mcinroe-esque fit, they finished drinking sect and eating pizza at James flat lat into the night, while delving jamming out to deep house. Thus the foundation of what will turn into one of the greatest production partnerships of the 21st century was formed.Fitting well into the sonic mould that Statra Twelves had made in the early 2000s, The Happy Ending EP is laden with swirling aquatic synth pads and grooves that will cause the dance floors to throb and melt. The EP begins with Comfort Zone awash with basic channel-esque amtmospherics, micro-sliced vocal stabs and pulsating sub bass, which coalesce into the ultimate in modern house sensibility. Next up, the EPs namesake tune Happy Ending, is cut from a fine silky early 90s house cloth. With its jazzy smooth chord stabs and spacious, smoothly punctuated drum programming, one could easily mistake this tune for some lost gem straight from the Paper Recordings vaults. To round things out and add of bit of Brooklyn grit, Statra tapped BK Co-inhabitant and long time pal Anthony Parasole for the remix duty. Parasole has been busy at work w/ Levon Vincent on their shared label endeavor Deconstruct, as well his House n Home Monthly event and DJing as member of the UQ collective. On the Mix, Anthony strips the tune of all accoutrement, pushes the kick to the an almost distorting grit level, and warps the vocal through a subway tunnel frenzy of echoed delay. The result is a monster dark and deep dance floor destroyer in an utterly deconstructed sense.

Now the keyboardist for FORMER Fela KUTI sideman Tony Allen and part of the well received collective Psyco On Da Bus, Jean-Phi's firstever solo excursion into deep, broken beat house sees the light of day on Statra Recordings after just a single play from Statra's man in France, Jeff Sharel who brought the track to Dave T. some months back
