The unique, piano-rock and synth driven sounds of Guest House were formed by college students Brooks Nopper and Zach Precythe in Charlottesville, Virginia. The pair, who are lifelong friends, recorded and mixed their debut album Halfway to Home independently. With the desire to release an album, but little assets at their disposal, they primarily used their college dorm and library’s audio studio as a recording and mixing studio. The album, as Nopper explains, is collectively “an emotional roller coaster” offering tracks varying from mainstream pop to indie rock. The band’s lyrics are notably self-reflective, focusing introspectively on personal experiences and aspects of loss. Instrumentally, the duo blends a distinct balance of piano melodies, ambient reverb and delay guitars, and heavy synth and string accompaniment. 

After completing the album’s instrumental production in late 2017, the pair welcomed Jordan Bernstein as lead vocalist. Bernstein, a notable collegiate acapella singer, boasts impressive range, skill, and harmonization that are showcased in tracks such as “Daylight” and “Time Lapse”. Between Nopper and Precythe’s layered instrumentals and Bernstein’s powerful harmonization, the trio delivers a wholesome sound that is distinct in today’s music industry. The band is excited for whatever the future may hold, and looks forward to releasing much more music.
