Orchestral Epic

Strange New World

This piece was inspired  by a trip to York Railway Museum some years ago, and the enormous Chinese locomotive on display: the KF7.

I imagined what would it be like if such a monster of a machine was possessed by the Devil himself, and the chaos and carnage it would leave in its wake as it hurtled along the railway line. 

This piece has been composed using orchestral samples and some electronica for sound FX. The sound of the train driving forward was created using clusters of  double basses and cellos.

Standing at the top of a mountain, the clouds clear to reveal the sun rising. Taking a deep breath, you step towards the edge of the precipice.  You lean forward…and fall...and begin to soar and fly.

Above and Beyond

An arrangement by Mercuzio/Stefan L. Smith as a YouTube collaboration project. This is just me sight reading both the viola and violin parts I wrote for this great arrangement. Hope you enjoy it :)
