After starting the mini Dekmantel Selectors podcast series two years ago, it feels like a tradition to bring it back to life. In the next couple of months, we will release 6 podcasts by some of the exciting artists from the line-up. This year’s podcasts challenges the artists to work around a theme or idea they picked theirselves. Next up: the talented duo from home grounds, Strange Boutique.

Strange Boutique a.k.a. Femke Dekker and Nicole Martens have two important things in common: their love for art and music. Whilst Dekker works as an art curator at De School, Martens is a visual artists and every now and then teaches design at the well-known institute Willem de Kooning over the past years. The kindred spirits they proved to be excellent curators: not only when it comes to art, but also behind the decks, playing everything in between ambient, experimental music and more crazy exciting stuff. That being said, inviting them over for their debut at Dekmantel Selectors sounded like the ultimate match.

In anticipation of that, the duo served up a mix full of tracks from outstanding artists like Beatrice Dillon, I:Cube, Green Vision, Cos/Mes and De Leon. Danclefloor gems meet experimental vibes. Strange Boutique: "Usually when we’re asked to create a mixtape, there's this one song that becomes the core of the mix and the way it's build up.  In this case it was 'Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest’ by The Fireman. Most of you will know that The Fireman is the moniker of English producer Youth aka Martin Glover of Killing Joke and the Orb fame and Paul McCartney. Both of us are huge McCartney fans and both his solo work, as well as The Wings and of course The Beatles has found a way into our various projects." Get to know the duo at its best.

@midland: “With this mix I wanted to try and capture the sound of me in the club during a long set in the part of the night when you and the crowd are locked in to a groove; a time when you’re able to make left turns, but it feels totally natural. As ever unreleased records sit alongside new records alongside records that came out 10/20/30 years ago. I definitely wanted to build to a more electro/rave crescendo in the middle of this, and try and plot a course through some broken stuff towards the end. I really enjoyed recording this one!”

Avocado is a DJ & Producer from Cologne, Germany. Over the past years as a DJ playing for Lustig Wandern (@lustigwandern), he’s established himself as an integral part of Cologne’s underground electronic music scene. 
Having played countless gigs at some of the finest clubs Germany has to offer, his residency at the famous Cologne-based club ‚Odonien‘ is probably the most important station in his career - his ‚living room‘ provides him with the musical freedom he needs to unfold as an artist. 

Avocado’s trademark sound as a DJ ranges somewhere between Tech House, Deep House and Techno - he himself likes to refer to his sound as ‚Dark Tech‘. Sometimes more, sometimes less melodic, always groovy, energetic & dark. Despite his young age (27), Avocado‘s experience as a DJ enables him to adapt to any crowd - at any given time or place, Avocado knows how to drive an audience crazy. 

Lately, Avocado’s expanded his portfolio by teaming up with his like-minded friend Cross, an aspiring producer who he discovered on SoundCloud back in 2013. As Cross & Avocado (@crossundavocado), the two spent all 2018 producing & playing gigs together. Their smashing club tune „Savior“ has brought them nothing but love & caught the attention of numerous DJs & Labels. The same-titled ‚Savior‘ EP is the Duo‘s first official release [Release: 2019/05/03 on Klexos Records]. There is a lot to come in 2019 - stay tuned!

Stereo.type is the brainchild of George and Bry, originating from the UK and Ireland respectively, they now call Berlin home. The boys honed their trademark quirky groovy sound at their And.You party series in London whilst releasing their debut track Momento on Get Physical Music in 2013. As time passed and feelings changed, the duo decided to focus on their productions in the home of electronic music, Berlin. 
 
Since the move Stereo.type have found their home on Berlin's Get Physical Music with their debut EP Wasting Time featuring singer Felix Raphael dropping in winter 2018. Their work can also be found on other cutting-edge labels such as Katermukke's MUKKE, Einmusik's EIN2, LouLou Records and Just Her’s Constant Circles imprint. 
 
Their music productions have an indefinable uniqueness with universal appeal that's seen continued support from a wide variety of top international DJs including M.A.N.D.Y, Animal Trainer, Eelke Kleijn, Dirty Doering and Martin Eyerer.  
 
Stereo.type’s DJ sets are full of energy and groove, fueled by their innate ability to guide and make the crowd move. With recent sets at Kater Blau, Watergate, Golden Gate and Bier und Birgit they’ve certainly had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at some of Berlin’s finest clubs.
