This song has always depressed the bejesus out of me, but I really love it.  Wonderful story about how it was written, Henry Gross was visiting Carl Wilson only to find they both had a dog named Shannon.  Henry wrote this one thinking what it would be like to lose his dog.  Inspired by Carl's Shannon though.

This is only one verse and the chorus of the song.
In 1993, Quebec had a lot of teenagers running away from home and committing suicide; the youngest of which was 12 years old.  That devasted me.   This song is for the children who decide their only option is to 'run-away'...but parenting is whole multi-facetted project that comes with no instructions.  It's a plea in letting the child know that,  there is always a light in the window so that, they can always come home.
