When we first started our Mixtape Series, little did we think that we would continue onto 50 Episodes, never mind recruit some of the best talent around to be part of it. The series has certainly evolved beautifully and it must be said that it's a true honour to have some of our biggest heroes and selectors joining us too. For our 50th Episode we have a very special interview and guest mix for you. We welcome the incredible and amazing Steve Bug.

His relentless commitment to quality - both in his own work and in the many producers he has championed - has made him one of the world’s most revered artists and curators, and along with his labels Poker Flat, Sublease Music, Audiomatique, Dessous Recordings, Traffic Signs or Raw Elements, has made a sizeable contribution to building the European house and techno scene as we know it. Barry Jamieson have been part of the electronic music scene since the mid 80's. 

He was co-owner of Fluid Recordings UK Limited, and one half of Evolution, He started his musical career way back in 1986, when (with fellow musical partner John Sutton), Evolution was first formed. Their first single “Came out of nowhere” was released on their early record label Positive Vinyl. They called on the services of a young DJ, who was starting to make a name for him self, to remix the track. His name was Sasha, and it was his first ever venture in to the recording world. As you might have guessed, it was the start of a great friendship.

He spent 8 years working alongside DJ Sasha and Charlie May, recording and mixing all of Sasha's work since 2003. This included the ground breaking Involver and Involver 2 albums.

As one half Evolution, he had built up quite a reputation, over the year’s. With hit singles such as “Love is calling”, “Phoenix”, and the massive, “Walking on Fire” of 2003.

Barry (and his past production partner John Sutton) had also been responsible for some great remixes over the past 10 years. These would include, BT “Quark” & “Dreaming”, Bedrock “Heaven Scent”, Breeder “Tyrantanic” to name but a few.

Barry has always been very much involved in every aspect of the music industry. From engineering, and co-producing nearly all the track released on Fluid, to putting out quite a few of the classics tracks with which Fluid had become renowned for. Tracks such as Arrakis “Aira Force”, Escape “Cascade”, JB “Lazy Dayz”, and of course, the infamous, Evolution “Phoenix”, which was featured on the very first Sasha and Digweed “Northern Exposure Album.


Barry also did a lot of remix and production work with Bill Hamel. Together they did remixes for Madonna, Brittany Spears, New Order and Seal, which we were both nominated for a Grammy in 2004 (best remix) for the track "Get together".

The beautiful community of music enthusiasts it attracted was second to none.  They came with me wherever I went musically. MARQUES WYATT (DEEP-LA)

Sonic love travels in many dimensions and as it relates to music, Marques Wyatt is a seminal pioneer as undoubtedly amongst the most respected DJ's in the United States and a West Coast legend.  In addition to producing some of LA's most legendary clubs / events, many associate him with "DEEP," the illustrious event that he nurtured in his hometown of Los Angeles-thriving and continuing today for well over 16 years. He was voted Best DJ of 2014 by LA WEEKLY and recently #2 in LA's TOP 20 DJs.  Last year, his two performances at Coachella were very well received and allowed Marques to continue ushering in some new followers.  He is one of the few dj's that have managed to cross pollinate and merge at least two generations of music fans on his dance floors . Thus, he is in demand at clubs, as well as on the festival circuit alike. Marques' unerring, knowledgeable selections are sure to stir up some emotions and known to turn huge dance floors into an intimate ritual.

Based in Stockholm, Alexander Sjodin aka Sailor & I has moved full speed ahead ever since his breakthrough single "Tough Love". Three years since the low-key SoundCloud leak, Sjodin landed a spot on labels such as Life and Death and Black Butter Records. He's a producer originating from a hefty background of jazz, rock, classical, and punk - picking up most of his skill via his family's piano or picking up a guitar. In terms of performances, you can catch him playing anywhere from Ibiza to Kent County, London - where he will be taking part in the Social Festival this year.

Sailor & I will be performing on the Stables stage, playing alongside acts such as Bicep, George Fitzgerald, Gerd Janson, Mind Against, and more.  Other artists featured at the festival are names as big as Laurent Garnier, Ellen Allien, Carl Cox, Solomun, Pan-Pot, Joseph Capriati, Loco Dice, Eats Everything, and many more. In addition to the carefully curated line-up, an acute emphasis will be placed on the local community, with locally sourced food on site and the involvement of local universities and companies. The site is designed to create an intimate boutique feel and there will be funfair rides and market stalls for customers to enjoy.

There is an effectiveness and simplicity to Mall Grab’s house music
that very quickly made him a star. The artist from an Australian town
makes tracks as dusty as homeland, but imbued with feel good melodies,
irresistible drums and smart samples that elevated them above pure
tools. This raw, instinctive, unfussy sound has found him on labels
like Looking For Trouble as well as the Steel City Discs label he runs
with Jarred Kennedy and Jackson Fitzsimmons. Back in February he
stepped out with an EP under his own name in a mission of
“self-discovery” and it’s a journey the world continues to be closely
tuned in to.

His mix is a high octane selection of brilliantly physical sounds.
From supersized house to throwback breakbeats, he slams it all
together with a fist pumping efficiency that means two hours race by
in a flash.  It’s a fun mix, too, with old school rave flavours, saw
tooth stabs and bumping kicks all brimming with the sort of life that
makes Mall Grab such an appealing and accessible talent.

Kevin Huizing AKA Budakid is a Berlin based music producer/dj. Coming from a very musical family, it was only a matter of time before young Budakid started playing an instrument of his own. As a drummer in a drum ensemble, the soon-to-be producer/dj got his first taste of beats and he wanted more. Having a good sense of rhythm helped him as a fledgling dj. Before long, Budakid landed his first residency in one of Utrecht’s most popular clubs. Although he wasn’t of legal age, several clubs asked him to perform and Budakid showed his promise by measuring up to peers twice his age.

But as it happens with a lot of dj’s, only dj’ing wasn’t enough for his own musical output. So Budakid sought out to prove his worth as a self-taught producer. Influenced by the likes of Joris Voorn, Stimming, Trentemøller and acts such as Massive Attack, Radiohead and Caribou, the Dutchman developed a very melodic style of his own. A typical Budakid song has floating melodies, the right set of chords and some strong, energetic vibes all mashed together. All this made him a crowd favorite at festivals like Tomorrowland, Fusion Festival, Sonar Festival, Feel Festival, Amsterdam Dance Event and SonneMondSterne and clubs such as Katerblau (DE), Sissyphos (DE), Watergate (DE), Cafe D’anvers (BE), Thuishaven (NL) and Melkweg (NL).

His music has been already supported by heavyweights such as Sasha, Joris Voorn, Guy J, Kölsch and Deadmau5. That’s something that didn’t happen overnight. Budakid’s tracks have been released on respected labels like Einmusika, Last Night On Earth, All Day I Dream, Get Physical and Audiomatique. Well-known blogs and magazines including Deep House Amsterdam, FAZE Magazine and VICE’s Thump are very enthusiastic about the producer’s tracks. So it’s safe to say Budakid isn’t just another kid on the block. Already regarded as a more than reliable producer/dj by his peers, nothing stands in the way of Budakid to become one of the greats.
