Constantinople is a Montreal-based early music and middle eastern music ensemble. The group was formed in 1988 by brothers Kiya Tabassian (setar) and Ziya Tabassian (tombak). The sétar and tombak are complemented by viola da gamba, renaissance cornett, and daf.

Estuary, the new collaborative Opus of the kora master Ablaye Cissoko and the ambassador of Persian setar, Kiya Tabassian, is the junction point where the rivers of their musical memories join the collective sea of the present moment. The estuary represents that astonishing space of transition and transformation where improvisation lives.

With their kora and setar, and their voices, these two musicians align the stars and create a musical universe that appeases the spirits. They are majestically accompanied by their percussionist partner, Patrick Graham.

Presented by the Grand Théâtre de Québec and Constantinople. About Constantinople Borrowing its name from the ancient city that was a beacon of light between East and West, the Constantinople musical ensemble was conceived by its artistic director Kiya Tabassian as a space for musical encounters and cross-fertilization. The ensemble is dedicated to passing on the world's musical traditions, creating new music and building bridges between cultures, eras, styles and peoples the world over.

Each individual can interpret these 5 simple words in their own very different ways. Perhaps there was a toxic relationship that they needed to end. Perhaps "I don't need you anymore" could be aimed towards not just a person, but a habit. A substance - a struggle. Perhaps it could even be aimed at the idea of speaking to your former self - the old man, the sinful nature. In whichever way the listener relates to these words, the sentiment seems to be that there are some things that are best left in the past.
