Better late than never for volume 7 in the TUFF TRAX series! Keeping it in the close family this month, we deliver a hot new jawn from one of our most talented friends, Jamie Ferguson aka @zubuntu. 

We first introduced Zubuntu's dark, stripped-down club mutations with the free single 'High Skool/Ruff Stuff' (still available here: https://soundcloud.com/tuffwax/twx-008-zubuntu). Since then Jamie's honed his craft, earning him DJ mix requests from the likes of @liminalsoundsmusic, bookings in Berlin and a reputation as an intense live act - most recently demonstrated during residency sets at Bake Haus, a monthly night run alongside fellow Aberdeen Truth-speaker @yoin. 

'Los Alamos Wolves' is more club heat from the rave cave with a nod to Bristolian bass, drenched in @zubuntu's signature trippy vocal drones & clocked with metronome-precise thug snaps.

TM004 comes from one of our original artists who makes music under the name Snorlax. Ever since day one, Snorlax's enigmatic songs have left us delirious in trying to pin them down to one genre, or even comprehend how he does what he does. On his debut single for The Melt, Snorlax dials into his proto-junglist/drum n bass influences and concocts two songs that keep us guessing all the way through. His unpredictable song structure coupled with his badman-like ability to lay down tough intricate percussion have resulted into something that showcases a true talent. Doing his thing and not being afraid to hide it.

MEDI078 GANTZ & EL MAHDY JNR - RISING

With the latter half of 2013 being dominated by a flurry of activity from the newfangled Ultramajic imprint, Berlin based label founder and scene veteran Jimmy Edgar reflects on the growing discography by remixing 'Whip', a standout track from the burgeoning canon.

With the original cut having garnered early support from the likes of Boys Noize, Loco Dice and Scuba, Edgar flips the the dub sensibilities and Chicago style
vocal chops off the elusive Aden into a proper New Jersey house joint, teaming with exuberant keys and irrepressible bounce.

Set for release at the beginning of 2014, it prefaces EP's from the likes of Sophie (Numbers / Huntleys & Palmers) and Danny Daze (Hot Creations / Plant Music).

Following the success of his recent Kompakt single "Somewhere," John Tejada returns to his own Palette Recordings imprint with "Anaphora." After a series of collaborative projects with fellow artists, Tejada distinguishes "Anaphora" as his first solo release on Palette since 2009 and presents a double headliner of his trademark musicality and driving rhythms, delivering a set of two eruptive grooves with a focus that has earned Tejada the respect of both listeners and peers alike.
"Anaphora" continues where John's 2006 smash "The End Of It All" left off, showcasing Tejada's trademark use of hopeful melodies and emotive sequences. It highlights his undeniable quality of crafting arrangements that rise above monotony.
Continuing where Tejada's "Mono On Mono" and "Eurotunnel" left off, "Bode's law" explores a darker, more driving side of the two songs. Furious analog synths and drums orbit each other in syncopation to create an engaging rhythm that is hypnotic and inspiring.

01 Anaphora

"Snakebite" is the second track on Visionist's upcoming "Snakes" EP on Leisure System Records

The newest release on Leisure System Records comes from Visionist, whose productions have been omnipresent in the London underground since debuting in 2011 despite a sparse release schedule. With records on Big Dada, Signal Life, 92 Points, and a recent feature on Kode9's Rinse CD, Visionist stitches together heady influences while maintaining an obvious devotion to grime. This 3-tracker on Leisure System is some of his strongest work to date, with starry breaks, jittery gunplay, and belching smokestacks accompanying Visionist's journey from the tunnels of South London to the belly of Berghain. 

The "Snakes" EP will be officially released July 22nd, 2013
