Why Bam Vol 3 - The Chillout Session

The last installment from Why Nam for this season.. this one starts with a bang as there was no time to waste and the beach wanted to DANCE>>> !
We start with some deep and funky lilac flavoured house, sidetracking into some slinky catgrooves before building up to a bass infused vortex of banging techno beats, whilst always keeping it uplifting and melodic- before going all soft and squishy in the end, ending with a few old favourites.. a molten gold island bass finish to bring it all back to where it begins, massive love to everyone who danced on the crystal sands of Why Nam all season and made it so unforgettable..

Why Nam Vol 4 - Farewell to the Bay

After 8 months travelling on different shores the memories of playing those wonderful parties of last season still linger warmly in my soul,  resonating across time and space the sheer joy and love we all created there together, so I felt excited to be back on my favourite beach in the world last week where I recorded this 2 hour mix. Opening with deep and mysterious delicately enveloping grooves and building into a vortex of pumping techno influenced progressive, we come to a gentle close with some warm and organic tropical influenced vocal house. Close your eyes and be transported… with the wind and the waves… back to the beach…

After a beautiful afternoon of sparkles, glitter, face painting, sacred spanking, contact dancing and lots and lots of lemons I took the reins to steer the sunlit beach on a four hour journey through funky disco, slinky catgrooves, tropical island bass and uplifting progressive…  A snake line of dancing bodies on the shoreline under the setting sun and the rising full moon is an unforgettable memory of my favourite gig of the year so far…

For this final saturday session of the season we started softly with some chilled soulful beach vibes, before taking a wistful meander through some classic edits courtesy of Late Nite Tuff Guy, a legendary producer from my hometown. As the hot afternoon started to give way to a slinky evening we dipped briefly into some Tropical House and spaced out Progressive and then as the dancefloor ignites one last time shift up the gears and accelerate into the vortex…

Sometimes things just go right.. after a long year travelling non stop I was finally back on my favourite beach, for the inaugural Colours of Love festival and Why Nam had never looked more magical. Lasers sparkling amongst the coconut trees, new friends and old dancing in the moonlight, glittering mermaids swimming in from a phosphorescent ocean and phenomenal fire performers thrilled us all while I played live piano singing into the skies, calling us into a higher vibration of love and cosmic connection..

Why Nam Vol 9 - Time Goes By

To celebrate this milestone I always planned to upload something special- so to mark the tenth instalment of Why Nam recordings I went through all 20+ sets I played in Thailand this year and chose this one as my favourite. An epic 6 hour journey that joins the dots between chilled acoustic beachside jams, mysterious forest rhythms, irresistibly funky techno and full power progressive house. Like the ocean tides that inspired it, the sound follows inward spirals of expansion and introspection, building and falling, but always moving forwards through genres and moods. If you were on the beach that day you experienced the most joyful and ecstatic Why Nam party of all time, which culminated in the entire dancefloor jumping, whooping and jamming with live drummers, live piano, live vocals all contributing to an energy filled explosion. What made it even more special for me personally was that for the first time my mother came to one of my DJ gigs, not only that but she danced like an absolute professional for the whole set! I don’t mind saying I had tears of joy by the end of what was really a special and unforgettable night. Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride...

Why Nam Vol 11 – Wonderful World

My farewell gig in Thailand was the final edition of what have been magical parties week after week all season.  As Juliet says to Romeo ‘Parting is such sweet sorrow’ and this set is a heartfelt goodbye to my favourite beach, which this year has been a cradle of creativity for me to experiment with adding live piano, vocals and various instruments to my DJ sets. As it was a particularly long 7 hour journey (!) I decided to split the upload into sections this time starting from complete stillness and a heart opening mantra, building gently through layers of drifting piano, acoustic gems, some classic sunny jazz and reggae, before warming up into the sunset dance. Thank you to all the beautiful dancers who lit up the beach in the last months, you are my inspiration and it has been an honour to soundtrack such joy and expression.

Warming up with some slinky dancefloor sexiness, slipping through currents of soaring vocals and irresistibly funky basslines to expand your heart and ignite your dancing feet. Third and final part of the journey and as night falls we pick up the pace and intensity, as I pulled out all the stops for the last jam of the season. By now a packed dance floor is getting down as only Why Nam knows how, the winds are blowing through the coconut palms above, the waves are kissing the shore and riding high in the clouds a luminous full moon calls us to rapture.. Moments like this remind me that it truly is a Wonderful World !

After island hopping my way home to Thailand from Ibiza I played a Valentines Day set on Why Nam and it was a banger!! A beach full of luscious lovers getting slinky and romantic in the tropical jungle is about the best way to spend an evening and this mix is a three hour journey into deep and uplifting island vibes… Encompassing artfully crafted sonic gems from Be Svendsen, Superflu, Audiojack and the awesomely named CamelPhat- this was been my favourite set of 2018 so far.. Close your eyes and dance the night away… like we did !!

Why Nam Vol 12 - Valentines Day

It had been a while since I played a set on the beach that feels like home, so I couldn't think of a better place to spend the first day of the 20's than Why Nam. After all the madness of the last year and non stop travels that have taken in all corners of the globe it felt good to be back..  the sun was shining, the parachute was floating in the breeze above the dancefloor like a pyschedelic jellyfish and sparkly dancers were throwing shapes all around..

Why Nam Vol 13 - New Year's Day

The first week of the new decade we were blessed with a powerful full moon lunar eclipse in the hypersensitive sign of Cancer (which happens to be my own zodiac sign) so there was a lot of transformative energy swirling around on the island. I wanted to mark this occasion with a set of beautiful, introspective and emotive music which would provide the perfect soundtrack for contemplation of the awe inspiring moon that rose above the still waters of Why Nam whilst we danced on the sand beneath, so enjoy this unique journey which begins with an ambient mix of my own composition Islandia 'We Are One' and slowly builds through some foresty deep organic jams to a climax of melancholic but euphoric remixes of Radiohead, London Grammar and Hans Zimmer. Lose yourself in the lunacy..

Why Nam Vol 14 - Full Moon Meditation

Words can't describe the liftoff on the beach last Saturday, I think there was a point where the entire dancefloor was bouncing and I haven't seen such an ecstatic Why Nam in a long time! This was the first time I played a set with live piano this year and I had a whole bag of exceptional and powerful tunes to jam over, including my own newest song 'Follow Me' (which you can hear 4 tracks in and will be upcoming for release under the Islandia project in 2020) plus bangers from the likes of WhoMadeWho, Stan Kolev, Artbat and Oliver Koletzki. So far this has been my favourite set of the decade so strap yourself in for two hours of uplifting vortex.. Why Nam style!!

Why Bam - Vol 1 (Part 1)

All these years coming to Thailand and somehow I never managed to be here on my birthday, but due to the global pandemic all summer gigs in Europe got cancelled so the silver lining was getting to spend this special day in my spiritual home of Why Nam for the first time! Apologies for the people who asked if they could make requests but I had to tell them today I'm going to play all my favourite choonz and that's exactly what I did. So this joyful, uplifting mix is packed full of Why Nam favourites along with brand new future classics. Not even the rain storm that swept in could stop the momentum of this party- we just moved the sound system inside and carried on for another few hours with an intimate sweaty packed dancefloor in the restaurant.. What a night, what a birthday, what a beginning to the next chapter of this legendary beach party..

Why Nam Vol 16 - ReBirthday 2020 (Pt 1)

The second part of this epic journey of a set that I can barely remember, it being my birthday and all! Around midnight an enormous tropical thunderstorm broke over the beach and we had to break down all the speakers and lights and get out of the torrential rain, suddenly the entire beach full of people was packed into our tiny sweaty restaurant, I set up old school Why Nam style sitting on a beanbag in the corner with 2 speakers and a sub and the party carried on with even higher energy whilst the lightning flashed outside and the rain poured down. The last hour of this set I play some of my all time favourite tunes from years gone by, the golden classics that have soundtracked some of the most euphoric moments of my life.. Hope you enjoy this set as much as I did !

An artist with a difference, Stevie Keys is an accomplished DJ who draws on his classical background to perform live piano over his sets, as well as a renowned producer with a history of releasing house music going back 20 years. You might not realise it but if you’ve been on a dancefloor in recent years you’re likely to be familiar with Stevie’s production as his original tracks have been released on some of the hottest labels around, licensed to over 100 compilations worldwide and supported by the world’s biggest DJ’s, such as Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Armin Van Buuren.

Born in Australia and always obsessed with music, Stevie Keys first trained as a classical pianist, before moving on to study sound engineering and completing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. By the age of 18 he had a record deal as a solo artist and had performed all over Australia, supporting artists such as Bjork and The Prodigy on their tours of the Southern Hemisphere.

Moving to London at the age of 19 he went on to record under various artist names including Antartica (for seminal UK dance label React), Altitude (Bonzai Records/ Sony), Sound of Soho (with Eye Industries/ Universal) and Tremor (for the influential Progressive House imprint Platipus).

Some career highlights include cowriting songs with legendary artists such as Nile Rodgers & Bernard Summers, remixing for the likes of Sia, R Kelly and James Holden, hosting a weekly radio show on DI.FM (one of the pioneering internet stations for electronic music) compiling and mixing compilation albums such as The Art of Chill (Sony) and producing several underground club hits that broke into the UK singles chart and were subsequently licensed to major labels such as Sony and Universal.

Now resident in Koh Phangan, Thailand which is famous for the Full Moon Party but is also becoming a popular destination on the international DJ circuit. In 2015 he created the now legendary Why Nam day party, before moving on to found Bambu Huts, which is fast becoming one of the most popular music venues in Thailand. 

Finally settled in this tropical island paradise after years of travelling the world, Stevie Keys is the resident DJ/ musical director of Bambu Huts, where he created The Sunday Session in 2023. This weekly event quickly established itself as the premier party on the island and is famous for having a distinct & sophisticated sound focused on afro, organic & deep house. Here Stevie plays extended sets with live musicians every week alongside illustrious guests such as Chus & La Santa (Redolent/ Stereo Productions), Djuma Soundsystem (Iziki Global), Igor Marijuan (Akasha Ibiza), DJ Ino (Cafe de Anatolia), Rezident (Anjunadeep) and many others.
