It's been a while, but finally I'm back with a fresh mix for all you discerning music freaks ! This was a 12 hour set recorded at Bambu on a sunny sunday afternoon, so I am splitting it into digestible chunks :)

▌I What’s your favorite drink while being behind the decks in the Club?
Beer and Water and Tequila... Aaaaand what ever :)

▌II What’s your history with music in general and DJ-ing especially?
Well, my father had a CD-burner in the mid-nineties. Somehow a bit later I had a huge music collection. We had a youth-dance around '97. A DJ was needed, I tried. Nobody danced - until I played "Backstreet Boys - Everybody". Everybody danced. I was hooked. This was followed by a ten year journey through Hiphop, Reggae, Dancehall, Jungle, DnB and finally led me to House and Techno, electronic music in general... Here I got stuck until today.

▌III How did you prepare this mix and what was your main inspiration?
I did not at all, I forgot completely about the mix until now. Got a message and went into panic mode. Luckily I recorded some sets. So, let's start the time-machine.... Woooooosh, we are at Kater Blau now, it's a rainy Sunday afternoon in March or April. I arrived in Berlin just a few hours earlier, took the train in the morning from home... It was a loooot fun :)

✔️Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?
 
 Ich habe eigentlich schon immer Musik gemacht. Als Kind ging es in die musikalische Früherziehung, dann habe ich lange Trompete gespielt und in Chören gesungen. Als Jugendlicher habe ich mich dann immer mehr für elektronische Musik interessiert. Daraus ist dann mit der Zeit Herr Zinnober entstanden. Meine musikalischen Einflüsse sind unterschiedlich. Aus der Klassik habe ich etwas Theorie für's Produzieren mitnehmen können. Ich glaube aber auch, dass die Harmonien und Melodieführungen von Bands wie Die Ärzte oder den Prinzen, die ich als Kind viel gehört habe einen großen Einfluss auf meine Musik haben. Elektronisch am meisten geprägt hat mich wahrscheinlich Jonas Saalbach. Seine Herangehensweise an Produktionen hat mich sehr stark inspiriert.

✔️Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

 Ganz ehrlich, die besten Afterhours, die ich erlebt habe, haben immer draußen stattgefunden. Nach dem Feiern spontan mit Freund*innen durch die Stadt zu stromern, oder im Park die Sonne zu genießen ist für mich die perfekte Afterhour.

✔️Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?
  
Das war mein Samstag Abend auf dem Entropie Festival. Ich habe für meine Verhältnisse recht doll gespielt ("Pah, das ist doch gar nichts!", würden jetzt wahrscheinlich viele sagen). Trotzdem ist es ein typisches Herr Zinnober Set gewesen, denke ich. Hier und da ein wildes Sound-Design, Melodien zum Tagträumen und dreckige Baselines. Also so, wie ich mir einen Samstag Abend auf einem Festival vorstelle ;)

✔️Wie hast du den Gig empfunden?
 
Das Entropie Festival hat, seit ich 2019 dort gespielt habe, einen Platz in meinem Herzen. Die Menschen sind angenehm, es ist politisch und es gibt ein spannendes Programm mit verschiedenen Artists, Bands und Workshops. Ich war mit einigen Friends da, das macht mir immer besonders viel Spaß. Der Gig war dementsprechend toll!

An artist with a difference, Stevie Keys is an accomplished DJ who draws on his classical background to perform live piano over his sets, as well as a renowned producer with a history of releasing house music going back 20 years. You might not realise it but if you’ve been on a dancefloor in recent years you’re likely to be familiar with Stevie’s production as his original tracks have been released on some of the hottest labels around, licensed to over 100 compilations worldwide and supported by the world’s biggest DJ’s, such as Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Armin Van Buuren.

Born in Australia and always obsessed with music, Stevie Keys first trained as a classical pianist, before moving on to study sound engineering and completing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. By the age of 18 he had a record deal as a solo artist and had performed all over Australia, supporting artists such as Bjork and The Prodigy on their tours of the Southern Hemisphere.

Moving to London at the age of 19 he went on to record under various artist names including Antartica (for seminal UK dance label React), Altitude (Bonzai Records/ Sony), Sound of Soho (with Eye Industries/ Universal) and Tremor (for the influential Progressive House imprint Platipus).

Some career highlights include cowriting songs with legendary artists such as Nile Rodgers & Bernard Summers, remixing for the likes of Sia, R Kelly and James Holden, hosting a weekly radio show on DI.FM (one of the pioneering internet stations for electronic music) compiling and mixing compilation albums such as The Art of Chill (Sony) and producing several underground club hits that broke into the UK singles chart and were subsequently licensed to major labels such as Sony and Universal.

Now resident in Koh Phangan, Thailand which is famous for the Full Moon Party but is also becoming a popular destination on the international DJ circuit. In 2015 he created the now legendary Why Nam day party, before moving on to found Bambu Huts, which is fast becoming one of the most popular music venues in Thailand. 

Finally settled in this tropical island paradise after years of travelling the world, Stevie Keys is the resident DJ/ musical director of Bambu Huts, where he created The Sunday Session in 2023. This weekly event quickly established itself as the premier party on the island and is famous for having a distinct & sophisticated sound focused on afro, organic & deep house. Here Stevie plays extended sets with live musicians every week alongside illustrious guests such as Chus & La Santa (Redolent/ Stereo Productions), Djuma Soundsystem (Iziki Global), Igor Marijuan (Akasha Ibiza), DJ Ino (Cafe de Anatolia), Rezident (Anjunadeep) and many others.
