Music’s power is in creating community, and this is the essence of Laurence Guy’s work. The London-based DJ and producer’s motto is ‘music to make you feel feelings’: whether that’s comfort, nostalgia, bittersweetness or melancholy. His sound has an unmistakable warmth while being squarely aimed at the dancefloor: samples fit into sprawling keys, and dusty drums thud under lush chords. Amid a string of EPs, Guy has released two acclaimed albums; 2017’s blissful house LP Saw You For The First Time and 2023’s Living Like There’s No Tomorrow, But Killing Yourself In The Process, gracing labels including Studio Barnhus, Ninja Tune, Shall Not Fade and more, now signed to Future Classic. He’s now armed with a stash of hip hop and filter house influenced dance tracks, like the Jamie xx-tipped ‘Hey Baby’ and the groove-laden ‘Most Perfect People (Are Mostly Not Perfect)’ that are already soundtracking people’s best life moments.

AfroOankali serves ritual bass: a hypnotic blend of low end frequencies and polyrhythms which celebrates the legacy of sound system culture and the Afro-Caribbean influence in electronic music. 

From 2020 - 2023 AfroOankali was the creative director, booker and resident DJ for Emergent Bass, a Berlin based event series celebrating the Afro Diaspora influence in underground club culture. In recent years, AfroOankali had a radio show on Refuge Worldwide called Bass Incarnate which mixed somatic exercises with music that could allow listeners to meditate on Bass weight. AfroOankali lives in Amsterdam but was raised in London.

In 2021 AfroOankali started a residency with Refuge Worldwide, hosting a show called Bass Incarnate. Bass Incarnate celebrates bass music alongside embodied mindfulness practices. Each show begins with a downtempo embodiment practice, then builds up the polyrhythmic intensity before ending with some downtempo tracks to ground out.
