Sound Advice: Noizu

Join Noizu on Sound Advice, the weekly interview series covering artists’ journeys and their creative process, to discuss production, his Las Vegas residency and more.

Welcome to Sound Advice, the series spotlighting artists’ creative process and their SoundCloud journey. We’ll get the inside knowledge straight from the source on how musicians, producers and creatives are leaning into everything SoundCloud offers to elevate their sound, get heard and catapult their careers. Sound Advice is now available in audio format on the SoundCloud Stories profile

On this episode of Sound Advice, we sit down with Noizu, who has made big waves in the big room house scene since debuting on Skrillex’s OWSLA compilation in 2017, and making the big move from London to Los Angeles around the same time. Linking up with mentors like Chris Lake, Noizu quickly started to release one big single after another; from “LFO” and “Wavey” to his remix of DJ Snake’s “A Different Way,” and chart-topping singles with his wife Annaca like “Summer 91 (Looking Back)” and “Dancing In The Dark.”

We caught up with Noizu in Los Angeles to talk about making it in the American dance music scene, his approach to music production, how he curates releases on his Techne label and the role that SoundCloud has played every step of the way. After playing 120 DJ dates in 2024 — including HARD Summer, EDC Las Vegas and a sold-out show at the Hollywood Palladium — Noizu is also gearing up for his first Las Vegas residency, so we got early details on that, too. He also gave us advice on what to pay attention to — and what not to pay attention to — as you grow your career as a DJ and producer.

Things We Talked About In This Episode of Sound Advice

How Moving to California Transformed Noizu’s Career and Inspired “Dancing In The Dark”

  • We begin the conversation by talking about “Dancing In The Dark,” Noizu’s recent single, released on Insomniac Records. Made with Annaca, a fellow artist and Noizu’s wife, “Dancing In The Dark” marks a new chapter in the dance producer’s sound. As Noizu shares, the track was inspired by their love of pulling from different influences; blending sun-drench Ibiza house and country music, they drew inspiration from the desert of Joshua Tree, California, and the band-packed strip of Austin, Texas. It’s a world away from Noizu and Annaca’s native England, and a love letter to their long-term home.
  • Noizu goes on to discuss the move from London to Los Angeles, and how it made a profound impact on his career. After bouncing from project to project in the UK, the big move felt like a necessary turning point; having learned to not overthink every career move too closely and to trust in his instincts, Noizu credits the US dance music scene as pivotal to the sound and success of the Noizu project.

Evolving the Noizu Sound and Brand, from Underground Clubs to Major Festivals

  • Noizu has seen trends come and go, but one constant has been the ever-growing commercial dance music sphere, and the appetite for festivals. Reflecting on his days in the British club scene, Noizu details how his craft has evolved over the years, and how he’s adapted his sets to suit the scale, productions and expectations of the main stage. He talks about how he’s tapped into a new confidence, bringing freedom, flexibility and personality into his sets. It’s a lesson for all artists making this transition.
  • When it comes to evolving the Noizu sound and brand in harmony, Noizu has many influences: from his young loves The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers, to his contemporary brothers-in-sound Chris Lake and Fisher, Noizu’s drawn many lessons. The greatest one he shares in conversation is to stay focused — in attitude, in work ethic, in sonic direction. After years of moving between genres such as dubstep, garage and progressive house, Noizu shares that he felt adrift in his career. When he met and was mentored by tech house producer and DJ Chris Lake, though, he learned from Lake’s sharp eye and ear.
  • When Noizu dedicated himself to a narrower sound with a devoted audience, he says, his career and craft flourished. Giving advice to other artists, Noizu says that you, too, can do the same. Build a team around you that shares your vision, trust your gut and draw from your wider experiences — Noizu, for example, has his own brand of hot sauce, Heaters Only, which he sees as a playful piece of merchandise that taps into his love of cooking. For Noizu, it’s about smartly sharing your personality with your audience as well as your music, to make a greater impact.

Running His Techne Record Label and Using SoundCloud to A&R New Talent

  • Alongside his production and DJing, Noizu runs TECHNE, a record label, and Club TECHNE, an event series that celebrates the label’s music; over 100 releases in seven years. Noizu speaks about the ups and downs of running a label and the lessons he’s learned along the way. Noizu keeps himself focused on the label’s mission: to discover and amplify music by up-and-coming artists. Discovering new talent is one of Noizu’s passions — and he uses SoundCloud to do it.
  • Noizu started his career on SoundCloud, posting edits of tracks and uploading them for free download. Today, he uses the platform to discover new music for his DJ sets and record label, and likes to focus on artists who have low follower counts. On this, Noizu makes incisive points about the music industry and the expectations that social media have put on new artists. For Noizu, it’s about the quality of the music over the number of followers — and he urges other artists to keep that same mindset.
  • As a solo artist, Noizu uses SoundCloud as a platform for sharing new music and organizing his workflow; using private tracks to catalog his label and personal work, share private links in direct messages with his audience and peers, uploading clips of his works in progress for public feedback and replacing audio tracks once he’s happy with the final results. He finds SoundCloud direct and easy to use, and urges up-and-coming artists who don’t yet have packed crowds to test their music in person to use SoundCloud as that digital testing ground.

Advice for Using SoundCloud’s Features to Elevate Your Craft and Career

  • When Noizu was starting out, he shared stems online for other producers to remix tracks like “LFO” and “Wavey.” He was so pleased with the quality and volume of the results that were sent to him that he released them as official packages: the ‘LFO (Remixes)’ and ‘Jungle Remix’ EPs. It’s a process that’s influenced Noizu as a producer and label owner — to keep educating and sharing with young artists. Here, he shares advice to those who are navigating a career in the music industry: focus on getting your demos in their best possible shape before sharing with peers and labels, and put aside the online noise of social media trends.
  • Looking forward to the rest of 2025, Noizu details his plans. These include working on more genre-agnostic songwriting and musicianship, and collaborating with more vocalists and artists outside of house music. After the runaway success of his track “Summer 91 (Looking Back),” which went Platinum in several countries, he feels emboldened to experiment more.
  • Most notably, he’s currently on tour in the US, and is getting ready to begin his first ever Las Vegas residency. In anticipation of the dates, Noizu teases that, since he’s seen the Las Vegas DJ scene encompass a wider range of genres like dubstep, he’s keen to flex his vast knowledge of the dance music underground on his very own main stage.
